2002 GMC Safari fuel tank plastic hose connectors
Hi all,
I'm a new member and am in the process of trying to remove my fuel tank to replace the fuel pump. I don't understand how to disconnect the hose connectors. The three plastic hoses don't appear to be fuel lines and i've never seen this type of connector before. Do I need some sort of special tool to disconnect these? Any and all help would definitely be appreciated. |
Looked at my manuals and it's hard to tell, but looks like it's a remove the plastic clip, then pull the fuel lines apart at the fitting. No tool is mentioned in the manual. However, if you do need a tool, this write up should tell you what you need. https://www.gmforum.com/mechanical-134/disconnect-fuel-line-283854/

Hi,Dan,
Thanks for the reply, but that write up tells how to remove fuel lines. The lines I am trying to disconnect are a formed hard looking plastic.I've never encountered this type of connector before.I guess I will take some pictures of them to take to the local parts store for suggestions. Don |
I'm pretty sure all you'll need are some quick-disconnects.

If you post up the pictures here we will know what your dealing with. I have a good idea but want to make sure.

Quick disconnects?

Does this help?
using your fingers, pinch the two ends of the locking clip together. https://www.gmforum.com/images/statusicon/wol_error.gifThis image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. You may have to twist and squeeze to seperate them. https://www.gmforum.com/images/statusicon/wol_error.gifThis image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. O.K.,
I will take pictures and post them so everyone can see what I'm trying to do more clearly. |
Thanks for everyone's input on my problem. I had a friend that had been through a fuel tank/fuel pump removal and had all the tools from that project. He came over and helped me pull and re-install the tank.Wow, what a friend!

How did he finally undo the clips? Was it by hand like the above pictures, or was it a different type of clip. I've seen several different kind like pulling a plastic clip out, to squeezing a clip, to needed special tools.
