I picked up a used 5.7 vortec out of a 00 chevy van. Has 85000 miles on it. I am going to rebuild it. I will post pics as soon as i can.

engine looks very clean, i spent about 3-4 hours cleaning the valley and intake manifolds when i did the intake gaskets on mine. looks about like yours after all the cleaning.

Another confirmation, intake gaskets on many 1995-2005 GMs start to break down at 70k+ miles. LIM gaskets should probably be a mandatory preventive maintenance service prior to 100k miles.

Really? I was gonna say that engine looks like it was rode hard and put up wet.

It looks more like 150k, and not 85k on it. Holy cow!

mine had 160 on it when i took the manifolds off and the crud was probably a half inch thick everywhere in there. i had to take a screwdriver and shop vac and chip off most of it.

It is dirty but i have seen engines alot worse.
