This should take the heat off GM for awhile.

Very confusing recall. Buying back the vehicle (Dodge truck) but only getting paid based on trade in value, not replacement value? What is Fiat going to do with the trucks- they are stating they are being recalled because they can't figure out how to repair the steering. The Dodge trucks do offer a rock solid diesel and a nice ride, but other than that why would anyone buy a Dodge truck...

It will be interesting to see this how this all unfolds for owners.
From what I understand, they will be able to resell the bought back trucks once repairs are completed.
I am not convinced it will be a good deal for consumers.
The pricing is to be fair market value and potentially $1000 more.
Now if Chrysler would sell the new vehicle at cost and not play games with pricing, it would be a good deal for those especially with higher mile rigs.
For those that have heavily modified (lifted, bumpers etc) or invested much into their electronics on board, they would not want to sell their rigs, but simply get them fixed.
The bottom line no matter what is the big question, how much more is it going to cost folks to move into another newer vehicle?

I just learned that Canadian'* could be SOL on this buy back campaign.

How will Canadian dealers respond to this crisis?

I think I drove one of these Rams once. Rented it in Dallas. had about 90 degrees of play in the steering and would follow bumps. If you were driving straight (which took some cleverness with 45 degrees of numbness off center) and hit a bump on the right only it would want to pull right until you hit one on the left. It would neutral out after a few miles of no bumps. I turned it in the next day and got a T&C instead. I figured the truck was abused previously, but after the descriptions of the recall it looks like it was this issue.
