My old 95 vs a 92
hey all,
My old 95 SE is gone.. I saw a nice 92 SSE and I thought about checking it out. But I'm concerned about the engine. One main reason I bought the 95 was because I wanted the 3800 series II. But this one seems awfully nice but......
What are the main differnces between my old 95 SE and this 92 SSE. How much power does the old 3.8 make. I really liked the ooomph of the 95 and she cruised nice at 75mph all day long. But Im also worried becuase I blew through 2 transmissions in less than 2 and half years. I dont beat on the car. Im a total GM guy so it wont stop me, but Im nerveous none the less..
I dont wanna sound Bonnie dumb but what is the main difference between a SSE and a SE??

you can disregard the bottom, shes gone. I sold her on e-bay to a fellow who'* 95 was rear ended and he needed a donor body for his powertrain. So it worked it well..

One thing to look for on the 92s is they are EGR-less and are prone to burning valves. It will be a good deal slower, especially on the highway. It will be much nicer inside. SSE'* are usually optioned out quite well.

95 -> 205hp 230tq
35 less horsepower will make a differance. But the extra options and nicer interior might make up for it. Check the mileage.
Although there are many many exceptions, SSEs are the fully loaded versions (excluding SSEi, which has a supercharged motor) and the SE is base model. Each car can have a totally differant option list irregardless of trim level though. Also, SSEs and SSEis generally have sportier suspension and exterior body trim packages.

SOME 92 SE and SSE models had the EGR valve, Delco ignition, and 'modern' upper intake. MOST had the Aluminum intake, no EGR, and Magnavox ignition. Just look for a 'mushroom' style EGR valve mounted to the driver'* end of the front cylinder head, ported from the front EM to the UIM. The valve burning isn't a really common issue.
The L27 engine will feel alot more torquey off the line than the L36, but won't have the strong top end.
An SSE MIGHT be supercharged from 92, and even if it isn't, should have most if not all of the other SSEi options.

thanx fellows, I'm going to check to it out. I quess I can live with 35 less ponies. It soundslike SSE inside is much nicer, It isnt supercharged that I know. The egr thingy is no biggie, doesn't sound like a big deal though. I'll let you know how it turns out.

i have a 92 SSEi and there are alot of advantages to having that verses newer.
up to 93 you could check your codes yourself for your electronic climate control, and there are just several little things that i like more about the 92 than i did about my 94 SSE i had( no im not talking about the L67 either) but then there are some things i liked better in 94, its just a tossup

OK I have to calm down..........
I just got off the phone with him, he called me back...
There are some questions I have for guys that I forget to ask him because as I asked him questions my tallywacker kept rising even further as he told me about his Bonnie..
As you know its a 92 SSE.. It has 96k on it. It was his mothers car. She bought it new. He'* had for 3 years, he got it with 77k on it. She kept it in a garage..
Its forest green with a, THIS REALLY GOT ME EXCITED: cloth interior, I know Im nutz, but I hate leather, Ive never seen a SSE or an SSEi with cloth!! I looked at autotrader all the ones there had leather. It has the center mounted shifter, bucket seats, usual SSE stuff. And once again my johnson rised when he said a MOONROOF!! I about lost it..
He said full ground affects. keyless entry. 4 month old brakes, 1 year old tires and the car needs nothing but a new windshield, its cracked. And its inspected until November. That means here in New Jersy you don't have to get your used car inspected until the one expires on the car you buy!! So Im quarenteed not to need anything that way.
I totally blanked after that..
Do these cars have 16inch wheels??
Do they have dual tips out the back and is that dual mufflers?
I know the grille changed on my 95, do SSE'* have that grille or the regular grill?
Anything else I missed??
How about the stereo??
On my 95 it didnt have all the speakers in the door, will the SSE have em?
It said it was fully loaded, but I know that means anything to differnet people so you wouldn't know the options..
The best part is the price he wants.. Im afraid to ya because you might run an internet backround check on me, find out where I live, wiretap my phone and buy the Bonnie before I do in the morning!!! Lets just say its under 2 grand!! How much so? I'll tell ya on Friday..
