Damage from draggin...
Alright, I'll admit it...I never stomp the accelerator as hard as I could because I'm rather worried about damage to the car. Many times I'll let someone go just because I don't want to push the engine too hard.
So tell me...Am I being too gentle? Are they made for it? Or is it a good idea? Anything to worry about?
Thanks.

Trust us when we say this, the engine can handle it if it is reguraly mantained, like oil and not done while your engine is cold. But I've floored my car repeditly and no probs with it, I wouldn't do it everytime you go from a stop or turn but these engines are built like friggin' tanks and they can handle it.

These engines are iron blocks with iron heads. They can take a serious beating before deciding to crap out. It is no F1 Racer, but you can push it hard when you want to.

Once that'* switched off, you're free to feed the horses, but remember that the other guy isn't going to pay for your new transmission. In short, you break it; you buy it, sport. Oh, hey, you already bought it. Okay, then, you get to buy it all over again, whatever doesn't survive your little race.
Having said all that, I find I get the best performance out of my bone-stock '93 SSEi by waiting until it upshifts to second, _then_ rolling on the supercharger. Leaning on it in first gear seems be mainly all noise, little action; second gear has a better ratio and the supercharger provides the necessary oomph to take advantage of that.

What officer??
I didn't know I was speeding... yes officer.. the engine will handle the abuse as long as I do regular maintainance...
Yes officer... the engine can handle it and it'* not a VTEC or Rice engine that will blow when you floor it...
Yes officer.. there will always be a chance of foulin something up.. but so is the chance of being hit by lightening
I wasn't racing officer.. I just put some injector cleaner in there and simply pushin hard on gas to clean the gunk off my injectors thru higher pressure...
hee hee...
Hope that helps..

The only Bonneville I've seen that "blew up" in a year and 1000 members was due to lack of proper maintenance by a shop. Your engine? Kryptonite. Your tranny? The weak point. That'* good, actually. Transmissions have a habit of telling you before they give up for good.
