Default Heat issues and inspection

I dropped my Bonnie off this morning to get inspected and also to have the heat issues looked at. Lately, the temp guage has been reaching about 230, even after the car'* only been running for 10 minutes. Yesterday, I popped the hood and there is a lot of noise (kinda like a knocking) on the belt side of the motor, down toward the bottom. I know that'* pretty vague, but I don't know a lot about these engines. I also noticed that the fans only kicked on for a few seconds, even though the engine was running at that high of a temp. I'm hoping that it isnt anything too serious.

If it sounds more like marbles rolling around, then the bearings are shot in the Water Pump so that may be the problem(not a major job). If it is the WP, you might consider replacing the hoses and thermostat at this time as well if they have are still original. Let us know what it is/was.

I prefer marbles over knocking myself. That'* "good news" for you, in that case it'* just the Water Pump. Get that replaced with some new coolant, hoses, and thermostat and all your troubles are over.

Ya know, I can't honestly tell you. I've done this job myself on my old '89 LeSabre and my present Olds and it took me a two beers....uh.....hours to do the deed. A pro should be able to knock this job off in an hour. The part(*) itself are not that expensive. Get an estimate, if you can, first.

It'* already in the shop. I know the mechanic, he does all the work on my camaro. I'd rather not wait to get this fixed since I'm trying to sell the Bonnie.
