Default Well I'll be damned!!!!!!

Got in a wreck today. I've been so careful to park at the end of parking lots, as close to the curb as I can. I wash the car once a week and wax once a month...been soooooo careful to not get even a scratch, and then it was all ruined by a few seconds of inattentiveness.

I guess I was daydreaming or something because I totally missed the fact that everyone in front of me was stopping. I laid on the brakes, the anti lock kicked in and everything but it was too late. I rear ended a suburban.

She had one of those big square trailer hitch things...tore up the front of my car something awful. Cracked the driver'* head lamp lens, knocked the center piece in (the one that has the pontiac symbol) and broke the grill. Small dent in the edge of my hood.

I was only going 40, so there'* only cosmetic damage, thankfully. Now I know I hit her and all, but this bitch had the nerve to look at my car and try to tell me that her bumper was bent a little!!!! There wasn't anything wrong with it, except for the paint I left behind.

Anyway, that'* for the insurance company to fight about. I'll get pics if anyone is interested, just wanted to vent a little really. It'* going into the shop on Wednesday to be fixed.

Thanks for telling us about your accident. It is a good reminder for all of us to pay better attention while we are driving. It could have probably happened to any of us. Adjusting the radio, looking at a scan tool, dialing a cell phone, etc., etc.

But, geez....

That seems a little harsh.

I am sure you were upset that you smashed your pride and joy, and worse, that it was your fault. But, the driver of the car you hit does not deserve to be disrespected because she was upset too, and wants to have her car restored. The bottom line is that the accident was not HER fault.

Accidents are upsetting, but try to keep things in perspective. Cars can be replaced. More money can be earned. What a good thing that no one was killed or seriously injured.

I dropped the car off at the body shop yesterday. The estimate was for a little over $1800.

Here'* a link to some pictures I took. Not as bad as Jim C, but still hurts....

*edit

After I posted this I went to the Geico website to check on my claim, according to the pictures, they had my car torn apart less than an hour after I dropped it off..

No worries... I did the same thing in my Grand Marquis. Tell you what, it really opened up my eyes on the road, that was six months after I got my license. Now I've had it for about four years and I watch for EVERYTHING. I've saved myself many times too .

Cool thing was I hit the spare tire on a CRV, and the Grand Marquis kinda slid underneath it from heavy braking. So the CRV was fine (he was an Indian Dr., he filed a claim 6 months later for bodily injury???). I smashed my header panel, both headlights, and some trim pieces. Shop wanted $1,700 to fix it, I did it for I think like $3-400 with paint and all. Took it to school to have their autobody shop paint the header panel, then the rest took a few hours to rip apart and put back together.

At least it wasn't as bad as it could have been, say if you didn't brake at ALL. Like others are saying, take it as a lesson in life .

Btw, I think the driver of the suburban has a right to be fairly upset, I'm one of those people that flip out if that kinda crap happens. Should have seen me when the Grand Marquis was totaled by another idiot driver. She may have had as much pride and joy in her vehicle as you have in yours. Well... maybe not AS much, but still lol.
