Why'd You Buy It??

Here's a good one. Why did you buy a Bonneville, Aurora or whatever else you have?

Sol 01-29-2004 02:29 PM

I had no choice. It was an upgrade from a Sunbird.

willwren 01-29-2004 02:34 PM

Been looking for one and wanting one ever since I saw an SSEi commercial on TV in 93 or so.

kazuki 01-29-2004 02:34 PM

I couldnt fin in the bronco my knees were on the steering wheel even with it tilted all the way up and the seat back

mremer 01-29-2004 02:51 PM

I had a grand prix before, and I wanted another, better Pontiac...only one way to go and thats:

BONNEVILLE!

Miami 01-29-2004 03:09 PM

The Probe I was driving (sharing with my brother) was making sounds like a sewing machine and my brother needed me to co-sign a car loan for him, which might have messed up my chances of getting a car loan I needed later...so we bought our vehicles at the same time. I was in a hurry and I wanted something small, simple, relatively inexpensive, and with a standard transmission...The Bomba was on the lot and had only 7,000 miles on it...

BUBBA 01-29-2004 03:17 PM

lol

i always liked them but never had one. figured i might as well go top of the line with the ssei. love it !!

SSE14U24ME 01-29-2004 03:20 PM

I was tired of driving my pickup truck and wanted a sporty car and my son saw this one and the price was right. It had everything I was looking for. Now I only use my truck to pull my camper.

kaps 01-29-2004 03:36 PM

Needed a cheap reliable car and the Bonneville stook out in my mind...

Princess Jeanie 01-29-2004 03:56 PM

It was my parents' car...I just kinda took it over and finally fell in love with it. :D

97NAbonneville1 01-29-2004 04:02 PM

It was my dad's car... and to be honest with you... not my first choice at all for a car. I really wanted a 95-97 Eclipse GSX. Then after my dad crushed my dreams of that car I wanted to buy my Mom's explorer Eddier Bauer from her and make it into a lifted beast. My dad said he would sell it to me for 15,000... um needless to say I was a little short. :x

Then when I got rear ended, I was looking for some stuff about bonnevilles, found this site, and have fallen in love with my car since then.... thats my story and I'm sticking to it!! :D

http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...3_127_full.jpg

.. i bought the 2nd bone b/c i wanted the best ratio of performance/cheap insurance i could find ..due to me being 17. SSEi answerd my questioin, hehe.

MOS95B 01-29-2004 04:27 PM

Needed a car "Right Now". Went to a used lot my buddy used to do radio commercials for (NanTim, for y'all in the Cities). I was in the mood for something sporty. There were two GrandAms that caught my attention. As I pulled in the lot, though, this big beaautiful blue beast that was between the little guys jumped out and stole my attention. The salesman came out, with the key no less. Two mile test drive later and she was mine!!

SSsuperchargedEi 01-29-2004 04:48 PM

had a mustang, but it always broke. looked for a 1 or 2g dsm, but they break even more. wanted to build a fast honda/acura, it's been done here though. my friend had a 93 ssei, it always caught my attention cuz it was pristine. never rode in it, but i still liked it. so im driving down the highway and i look to my right and see what i thought was just an SSE. a few days later, i almost sh*t myself as i read the paper in school, noticing it was an " i ." made my gf go test drive it with me, she didnt like it but I WAS IN LOVE!! went home, talked to the parentals. traded mustang with around $20k invested for the ssei. just wanted something different, along with sexy curves and a roomy interior. its faster than my gt was stock...

Wolfedog50 01-29-2004 05:01 PM

I got mine, becuase i always wanted an SSEi. Parents have an Se. I liked the car, but wanted more speed. Theres is like a 92 se.

h1081dan 01-29-2004 05:39 PM

Price - $1500, at the time my van was blowing up and I needed something, I was really looking for a newer RWD V8. I'm happy with my purchase.

Paulnold 01-29-2004 06:46 PM

family was starting to grow and I needed a bigger vehicle, had to be a gm product for me and it was either the buick regal or the bonneville, did a little research on the net and the bonneville won my vote :)

1992 trofeo 01-29-2004 07:00 PM

I told my dad to buy the car in late 91, and he did... So when he moved 500kms away he said it would be to much of a bother to bring it down there. At first my girlfriend (at the time) drive it untill she found somthing of her own, then it sat for about 2years, and I started to drive it when I started to commute to a fab. shop instead of being on the road..

egladman 01-29-2004 07:30 PM

Well at the time I was driving a Ford Tempo that was just about as junkie as they come and I wanted something a little bigger and newer. A couple of weeks before I test drove a 95 Monte Carlo that had 197K on it and then I saw the Bonneville with only 180K and decided that it was the better deal. They wanted $1400 for it but my dad talked them down to $1000 bucks. And it's been the best car i've ever had.

Jim W 01-29-2004 07:39 PM

My 89 was always in my family (1 owner) and I always liked it. I drove it as a teenager and knew that was going to be my first car. I bought it for $2500, drove it for a year and a half. I was not really looking to sell the Bonneville yet when I passed the Aurora with a big for sale sign.

$10 500 cash later...it was mine 8)

when i first laid eyes on it i had to have it i thought there was no way i could afford it then i saw the price tag and it was in almost perfect condition inside and out, and instantly i fell in love, the power was unbelievable to me at the time i miss it already

GAMEOVER 01-29-2004 07:49 PM

see i wanted one when i was 16 but couldnt afford so settled with a 90 GP well when that ttook a shit i bought the bonny mainly because of stylein

GAMEOVER 01-29-2004 08:06 PM

yeah it had the 3.1
but that was the best motor and trans combo i ever seen
see i beat the shit out of that car i mean you name i did it not just once but at the time(nertual drops and going about 30 mph in reverse and then slaming it in to drive  tons of tire smoke the finially i was driveing it 1 day in a summer day about 85 f and i wasnt paying any attention and then the temp was pegged at like 260 i think so i pulled over and let it cool off came back a hour later and fill the coolant then drove it then later that night i checked the oil milky so next day traded it in i got it with 85k and i got rid of it with 167k over a span of 2 years

but no knocking blown HG Damn Iron blocks and alumnium heads

sse1990 01-29-2004 09:33 PM

Well I have always liked the look of the early ( pre 92) Bonneville SSE, but never had $$$ to buy one. Well I went to an auction and brought Renée with me ( big mistake) and when we seen this car come in, we knew nothing about it at all. Didn't even know what condition it was in. Well she fell in love with it and I have always wanted one. So usually you bring a person with you to stop you fomr buying something, well lets just say she kept telling me to bid. We got it for about 450$ but after taxes and this fee and that fee it was about 800$.

We thought about selling it cause we didn't really have alot of money to get it on the road. But we brought it back with us when we moved back to our home town and as of December it is back on the road.

smellbird 01-29-2004 09:41 PM

My first car was a 85 Cutlass Ciera, the trans went out on it so I had to start shopping for something. My good friend was looking for cars about a month before my Olds died and his choices were down to a 94 Maxima and a Bonneville. He got a better deal for the Maxima so he took it.
When I started looking I found a 95 SE, whoever owned that car kept it in mint condition, the floor mats didnt have any kind of mark on them. December of 2000 saw the end of that Bonne though.
Two weeks later I was looking for a new Bville, saw the one I have now sitting in a lot, took and never looked back

bonnie94ssei 01-29-2004 09:51 PM

Ryan, the original Alien was a nice hand-me-down! 8)

I on the other hand, got a 1986 Chevy Celebrity from my Godparents. That car was embarrassing. It was black, which was nice. All cleaned up it was great. The interior was the soft maroon cloth seats, very nice. Had the 72 spoke wire hub caps. Bought some 5 spoke chrome wheel covers from pepboys to pimp it out a bit more. But the way that car accelerated, it probably was a 19 second car on a good day.

Then the radiator cracked and the car over heated every single day to the point I stalled my car in traffic on a regular basis. I knew I needed a reliable car.

I went to carday.com (which was a scam IMO) and found my current Bonne 15 miles from my house. Was a nice looking car from what I could tell on the internet pictures, and I always liked Bonnevilles since I was 10 or 11 years old. Took a test drive, liked the features, and I couldn't pass it up, even though it had 96K miles. And I'm glad I bought it. It has proven to be much more reliable than I thought it would be the day I bought it.

Damemorder 01-29-2004 10:55 PM

I got bored at an auction. Bought the 87. Helped a guy who needed money. Got the 93.

I know that maxima! We need to get him out of it.....

I drove the 88 nova around in HS since it was our families 3rd vehicle, my brother and i took an early class and forced my parents to get a 01 camry. I didn't take any car to college since i didn't have one last year. This summer i put my foot down, and looked at pontiacs and some thunderbirds etc. Looking at early 90's GP GTP and stuff, but it was all $6k or so, said what the hey, at the bonneville, i always liked them, we almost bought one in 91, but got a transport instead. To my surprise they had a bigger engine, were more luxurious, and bigger, and cheaper by a lot used! It was big enough for all my toys, had a big american displacement engine, was luxurious to no end, and was different. It looked like a good driver.

Found a 92 SSE on the other end of the metro, went to check it out with a buddy. It was loaded, and with 167,000 miles, and it was showing. Tranny died on me when i was returning it from my inspection.

Drove some SE's but they were all lacking in options, and were banged up. Finally found my car about 20 miles north of the 92 sse, in Buffalo Mn. When we pulled up the hill into their house i saw it and was just happy! We got in, it had all the toys and it was a great driver. This was on a monday night i believe, and we had it checked out wed afternoon and i bought it after the inspection.

It's big enough for moving stuff @ college, it's powerful, takes me back to the msucle car era, it's still nimble, it's sporty, and it's damn comfy!

J Wikoff 01-30-2004 01:05 AM

Ever since I was 13, I said I wanted a black 92-95 SSEi. Couldn't find one, so I bought a White SSE SC. Bonnevilles run in my family.

SSEimatt93 01-30-2004 01:07 AM

i bought mine because "apparently" it had no problems, it was in decent shape, had lots of options, all working.
But now its gotten to be to much, we all know what that means
But im gunna look for another Bonneville.
Its like an Addiction!

kennlee 01-30-2004 02:07 AM

FIRST: I'm 6' and 245lbs
SECOND: I wanted a car that was a modern day verson of the GTO. It needed to be a big enough car for me to fit in and have some nut.
THIRD: Car needed to match my attitude..."What you lookin' at..A** Hole"

Bonneville SSEi was the only choice, and I looked for 4 1/2 months and drove 35 or more SSEi's before I found this one.

Why ?? I like being noticed !! even at 50+... nothing changes...I'm still just a big KID!

Same here Ken, I looked for about a year untill I got a call about an ex lease ssei, took it for a test drive (for a week!) came back and signed the papers. Best car I have ever owned.

GAMEOVER 01-30-2004 04:46 PM

for a week? damn thats a long test drive

ssesc93 01-30-2004 04:50 PM

I bought this one because they sold the 99 GTP a week ago, it had 34,000miles on it and it was black
http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...720_1_full.jpg

I bought this because I got tired of taking the bus, my ex-wife was bitching about not taking me home and its rare.

I also think my Bonnie is the best car I've ever owned..Overall . . . .well, I think it may be a toss up with my 1967 GTO, it was a daily driver for more than 15 years before a dumb blond bimbo stuck her k-kar wagon in my backup light. It was stored until last month when my son-in-law and myself started restoring it. If you like you can take a look at:

CatsEyes 01-31-2004 01:18 PM

My 97 SSE:

1) Necessity. I had to scrap my 87 Chevy Spectrum a little over 2 years ago because the body was rusted beyond hope.

2) Safety. After all those years in the Spectrum ("Bessie" was the only car I've purchased "new;" straight off the showroom floor), I couldn't believe how much safer I felt in the SSE.

3) Comfort. The Spectrum's seat was killing my back. Another 1,000 miles or so and I would have been doing a Fred Flintstone.

4) Power. I'd been in 4 cylinder, manual shifts over 10 years and never had any real passing power. "CatsEyes" totally blew me away when I took her out on the 4-lane.

5) Luxury. It took me several weeks to adjust to the lights, buttons and bells, but I eventually fell in love. Especially with the radio controls on the steering wheel.

My 97 SE:

1) Necessity. Lost "CatsEyes" on 12/13/03 to a head-on.

I wanted another like the one I had; alas, that wasn't to be. I haven't decided if I'm keeping the SE long term or not. It's been reliable (so far). That's all I can ask for right now with this bitterly cold weather and I'll count my blessings!

fuddyduddy121 01-31-2004 01:33 PM

Wanted to replace my 89 SE with something newer with airbags and antilocks. Loved the Bonneville and wanted one with more features and power.
