Why choose each of these cars?
2000 grand am or a 1992 bonnie SSEi?
What are the differences between these two cars?
Can we even compare these cars?
Anyways, let me know what you think. I have some women ranting on about her new car and Id love to throw a little bonnie in her face...wanna help me out?

No brainer for me, but I'm a Bonny addict. The comfort is not comparable. The sheer power is not comparable. The space for passengers and cargo isn't comparable. The OPTIONS. Geez, tell the poor misguided woman to drive your car for a day! Being a 2000, she doesn't even have a warranty to brag any more! Maintenance costs will be more, but all the other benefits outweigh this. Oh, don't forget about safety. These Bonnevilles are notorious for bringing owners back from the brink. The Grand Am is a fun little get around town car, but I wouldn't want to see one piled up at 130mph, or T-boned at an intersection.
Just race her for bragging rights! That'll solve it.

Kimmers,
The 3800 is another reason you have a better car. This engine came from Buick racing technology (do you remember the Buick Grand Nationals? They were the fastest domestic production car in 1987--the last year for the GN. That means that it beat out the Corvette, Firebird Trans Am, Camaro, Mustang, and any other U.*. car--BTW, GM snuck that one in by manufacturing it in your great country--CANADA!) Anyway, the 3400 or the 3100 (which ever came in the Grand Am) cannot compete with the 3800. Also remember that when it comes to repairs, the GA has no room in the engine compartment and is an OVC engine. This makes them harder to work on than our pushrod Bonneville engines. Even changing out the plugs is a bear in the 3400/3100 engines. The back plugs are so far up under the intake plenum that one must access them from under the car--with vaseline on their arms to get past the exhaust and firewall squeeze (from personal experience).
Your friend is happy with her GA--and that is okay. Any bad mouthing of your car is simply done out of personal preference and Bonneville ignorance. If she had the opportunity to drive a tight Bonneville for a day or two, she would drool over the prospect of an upgrade. Let her stay happy with her car. What she doesn't know won't hurt her.
Just my opinion.

I do love Bonnevilles, and I would choose one over a GA anyday, but the GA is a good car. I have experience with one.
I learned to drive in a '97 Grand Am GT, that was owned by my mother. It'* a decent mid-size car that is good to get you around. The acceleration doesn't compare at all to the Bonnies, but it is a fun car to drive, and it'* a Pontiac, so you know it'* a quality product.

The 1987 Buick GNX actually accelerated faster then every other production car in the world except for the Porsche 911 Turbo that year according to Car and Driver.
http://www.flash.net/~rjgeorge/accel.htm
13.5 in the quarter is faster then 90 percent of current production cars today.
13.4 sec for the 911
http://www.stevecarter.com/sq.htm This site lists the GNX at 13.7 and the 911 at 13.4 still.

Just something random that I found at the same time on the GMC Cyclone. I have always wanted one of these trucks or a Typhoon

OH BOY!!
Something to worry about. A Grand Am or a Bonneville?? The only thing she has on you is she has a 2000. Bet she also mhas a car payment. If I remember properly you got a pretty good deal on your car. If you had to finance your car I can guarantee you that you owe a lot less than she does and you have the superior car. If you still wonder make her a trade for a day and she'll wish she owned a Bonneville and you'll be glad you own a Bonneville....
