Default Mustang left in my spray!

On our way to the Auto show on Saturday, as we got off the first Ferry at 8:am it was overcast cool and the roads were dry.

There is a one hour drive between two Ferry'* along a twisty 80 kph limit stretch of Highway 101 that runs along the coastline amid 200 foot Fir trees. Some corners have a 40 kph limit and there are four- three lane passing zones where speeds of 180 kph are possible.

It only took a few minutes after getting off the first Ferry for us to get out in front of all the Ferry traffic.
Then it was clear driving. Like a grand prix circuit. Exploring the limits of adhesion and accelerating to the max coming out of corners. It was great.

After about 10 minutes of clear driving with no traffic, we caught the glimpse of tail lights ahead. A 2002 Mustang.
He saw us coming and sped up. The new Mustangs handle very flat thru the corners. The Bonne barely able to hang on, but we did. It was even greater fun than driving solo. I love competition.
We came up to a few other cars that we each passed during some daring manouvers.

Then the first 3 lane passing zone came up. It was an uphill twisty climb. It was about at that time that it first started to drizzle so we had to start slowing down. Now that was hard to do but the reality of bending my Bonne around one of those 4 foot diameter trees kept flashing in my head so sanity prevailed.
We slowed to around 140 kph.

This continued for about 10 more minutes until the second three lane passing zone came up. The predictable Mustang driver pulled into the left hand lane to pass some slow moving traffic. I knew he would stay in that lane until the end so my only chance was a right hand pass.
Had to do some field testing of the Stabilitrak system.
I stayed on it hard and passed him in a fog of road spray doing about 160 kph. That doesn't sound very fast but with the wet twisty road and poor visibility, it sure got the adrenaline going.
I didn't let up until the Mustang'* lights disappeared in my rear view.

It'* my favourite road.....and I just don't like Fords.

Awww come on, give the mustang a little more respect guys. Sure it'* no comparison to the mighty bonneville but at least give it what it'* worth.

IMO racing in the rain, with poor visibility on a winding road is a dumb-*** maneuver, no offense to you personally, but anyone that does that endangers not only themselves, but everyone else on the road. Try thinking next time, because sooner or later, you're gonna be wrapped around one of those trees and it'* not gonna be pretty.

Street Racing is bad, take it to the track.
