Well, indirectly at least. I am going to embark on my second UIM/LIM repair tomorrow. Bronze Bonnie who is a member who reads alot but doesn't post very often has the dreaded LIM gasket deterioration problem. Confirmed by observing dropping coolant level and wicking up from the bolts. His UIM prolly won't need replaced since it is the newer one.

There is no way I would embark on working on someone else'* car had I not had the very good help and advice from members on this forum. I don't have much money for PIFs but maybe this is a different type of PIF.

Thanks again BC!!!

Monetary Pif'* are one thing but lending a hand is worth so much more.
Good job and good luck with the gasket repair

it is a very big PIF to Bronze Bonnie. Alot of us do what we can. It may seem small and not much to ourselves, but to the people we help it is huge. Kudos for stepping up.

It is great of you to help out "hands on."

Because you will be removing it anyway, take a few minutes to probe the EGR bore of that UIM with a sharp point like a dental pick or an upholstery needle to make sure the plastic has not begun to soften. Doesn't matter if it is newer or not, unless it has a metal sleeve for a heat shield in the EGR bore. Unshielded EGR bores can look deceivingly good because they typically become coated with a shiny black layer of petroleum coke that mimics new plastic, but the coke will not stand up under a probe test if the plastic underneath has suffered heat damage. It would be a shame to have removed and replaced a UIM that later failed.
