I purchased these tires back in April. They were a mere $90 a piece with the tirerack promotion. They are now $128 a piece with normal pricing thru tirerack.

Local shop charges $270 a piece for these mounted and balanced.

They are a strictly summer tire with no treadlife warranty. They are designed for 2 things:

Amazing Handling
Amazing Traction

When I first bought them I could not break traction with them, this is on a 1998 SSEi with a 3.4" pulley and other supporting mods. I mean maybe a little chirp but compared to the previous tires I had on there (Toyo Spectrum), the difference was night and day.

These tires allowed my 18" wheels to put down consistant 2.1s and even a 2.0s 60ft time at the track last summer.

So they are really cheap for 18" tires, but whats the catch? I'm at 15,000 miles on them right now and here is what the tread looks like:

So it looks like the rears may be good for another summer and I will need to replace just the 2 front tires and be good for another summer.

So lets do some math here....Here are some favorites by members on the club for all season tires and the pricing.

So if you ever upgrade to low profile wheels, and want to retain the same handling you had with 16"/17" wheels, I'd recommend you invest in a set of summer tires and put some winter tires on your stock wheels. I do like these dunlops though, they are a great tire for the price and exceeded my expectations for what they are designed to do.

Tirerack rates this tire in 4th place out of 23 for "Max Performance Summer" Tires.

had you rotated, i think you would have been good for most of next summer on all four. You should have rotated and balanced 3 times over the summer, if you went 15,000 miles.

15,000 miles is normal for that type of tire.
I only have about 5,000 miles on my BF Goodrich Drag Radials that are on my Trans Am and they look the same as yours but they started out with only half the tread.

but look at the front/rear tread difference. The tires could have the tread wear almost even had the tires been rotated, and he wouldnt have to ride around with 2 new/ 2 old tires next year.

These tires loose their traction as they get worn down....a few months ago I started to be able to break them loose.

Now they spin without a problem.

I want a fresh set of tires up front for next summer :?

oh...your right, i did. I'm used to running the same tires all year round, plus i can barely break them loose from a stop anyway

So put the rears up front, and stop spinning them

I'd rotate somewhere around 6,000 miles then too.

Hi-po summer tires don't last too long when being abused

I think the tire he was comparing his worn front tire to was a brand new tire. It couldn't be a rear tire with 15,000 miles. :?

Hans, one of the reasons your tire has lost traction is the rubber compound has vulcanized due to the heat cycles and become harder, thus more easy to spin. This is a natural aging process of tires. Also the diameter has decreased giving you a slightly decreased drive ratio.
