Whats your view of Engine covers?
Anyone have any input or advice on whether or not there is a difference with the engine covering the series II 3800 on the 2000 SSEi? Some say it blocks in heat, others tell me it makes no difference. Some have moded this with mesh. Has anyone noticed a difference? I like the looks of the shield but if it hampers performance then I'd take that over looks. Especially since I'll be installing my CAI this weekend.

Get the best of both worlds. Looks are better meshed, and it'll breathe nearly as well as if it wasn't there. ;)

For performance, remove it. Over 80 degree difference of the blower with the cover on.

how do u attach the wire to cover its self?
|
If you look under the series II supercharged cover, you will see that its padded under there so theres alot of warmth with that thing on. Take it off, I did :D

They are heat traps. Get rid of them. KR nightmares.
|
That is why I like mine thier is much one
|
Thanks guys! General concensus has it to keep it off so that I'll do. It's off for now untill I can add some cool (no pun intended) looking mesh to it.

Jason's made the trip to his trunk 2 weeks ago, and hasn't look back since.
Besides, that's where the audible noises from JL and flowmaster reside. |
Engine cover
I am going to take my stock cover and modify it. There is enough empty spaces that can be cut away and still keep the lettering thats on it. If it done right the air will come thru the front and exit thru the back. I will try to post photos of it when it is done.

who makes these ones? http://stores.buyitsellit.com/BCstuffstore/
I'm thinkin of using my dremel and making it somewhat similar |
I always leave mine off. The S/C looks much better than that plastic cover. Plus it traps heat, and I have to worry about KR.
|
whats KR?

engine cover
has anyone noticed any adverse conditions from removing the cover. Also is it of any advantage to removing the cover besides for performance? I would like a response asap. I am going to get the my SSEi ready for the Pontiac show on the 12th.

The only reason its there is to cover the engine for aesthetics as well as muffle some of the valvetrain noise.
|
also to cover the vacuum lines and prevent them from breaking. I tried doing a tune up on my 93 and broke a line becasue the cover wasnt on and i was on top of the motor to reach the back part
|
and just why were you using vaccum lines for support?
