I bet 6.2 GM/Detroit, 6.5 GM/Detroit, and Duramax 6.6 diesels can get better mileage unloaded and load than a Chevy 454 or 496 gas motors.

i dont know if i like the smell but its not worse than a gas engine, just different.

I have some friends around here that are running 5.9 and 6.7 Cummins engines in 2500 and 3500 Dodge pickups and they're getting over 25mpg. Try that with a gas motor in that big of a truck. We asked about a better fuel efficient motor for my uncle'* Chevy 2500 HD (6.0) and they said get a Duramax and you'll be good. The best I have seen a gas motor get in a 1/2 ton or bigger is either the 5.7 Chevy or the 5.9 Dodge(after chipping it and freeing up the exhaust). The Dodge was at best getting 18mpg and the Chevy was around that if not a little better and those numbers were both in 1/2 tons. Diesel > Gasoline as far a mileage goes....On a different note, an affordable TDI would be a VW Golf or Rabbit...kinda cuddly but they get the MPGs...

With bubba on the hwy unloaded and cruise set at 70 on flat ground he can pull 18-19..my 02 with a 6.0 gets like 14 my 2500 ram with a 12 v cummins will get 23 all day long with a wrecker boom in it

There might be some Chrysler diesels offered in the future now Fiat have an interest.

They make good diesels, equal to VW imo, but not quite up to the standards of the French makers yet.
If Peugeot-Citroen could make the rest of their cars as well as they build diesels they would be marvellous cars.

I think nissan makes a diesel, either a sedan or SUV, but not in the US. I know there are SOME diesels coming back into the US now...but its either a VW or a MB. The Mercedes diesels look good from what I have read, but the price tag for a used 320cdi is still high for me. Diesel trucks, of course, are an option, my boss swears by his cummins diesel like there is no tomorrow. I don't personally have enough use for a diesel pickup to justify owning one though. I guess I just wish there were some more options available, and I still don't understand why diesel is more expensive when it is less refined. Then again, I am IN oil country. They pull a shitload out everyday in NW North Dakota, and its getting busier than hell here. And yet, fuel costs more here than it does in the eastern part of the state by a good 30 cents a gallon. Refinery locations. There is some messed up **** going on in this country. I like it here, but I want a quality affordable diesel with affordable fuel! Gonna go take some electronics courses instead.......

I know, but they are still made by European auto companies. Therefore they are European cars, aka imports.
