Default Your thoughts please.

I was considering using this engine flush stuff for high mileage engines. Its not quite an additive, so I was wondering if it is a good idea. I know I added some seafoam transmission tune stuff to my trans before i changed the fluid, and it took alot of varnish off the clutches etc, so i was wondering if this would be a good thing to just clean the passages, oil pickup, cooler lines...etc.

Generally it is not worth it. Why do you think you need to clean your engine? How many mikes are you currently at?

Like my sig says, i have 148,000, 148,500 to be exact, but umm, i dunno, i just figured it can't hurt or can it and was wondering what the benefits COULD be if any at all.

I bought my Buick from a one owner with 80K miles. The guy had been using Pennzoil. There was plenty of varnish stains on the valve springs and rocker arms. Drained that junk out and replaced it with Valvoline Maxlife. 1500 miles later and the varnish was GONE. It even cleaned the varnish off the plastic oil filler tube.

The use of a quality oil with lots of detergents is all you need.

I'm at 175K and never did any of that stuff. I can't say whether it works or not. I like to look at CorvetteCrazy as an example. A year ago Nov he changed his intake gaskets and found a lot of crud and sludge. This year he did them again and found a great reduction.

All he did was maintain the Mobil 1 oil changes.

Holy smokes...we have someone taking out Mikes? All you Mikes...watch yourself.

I agree with the rest. A nice gentle cleaning over time with a good quality oil, and regular oil changes is the way to go. As Cheetah suggested, sometimes things like that can break loose chunks of crud and start to clog things up, rather than slowly dissolving things. Stick with a regular maintenance schedule, especially if you aren't experiencing any problems.

My only gripe is that it takes like 15-20 mins for my valvetrain to stop ticking.... and after about 20 mins, the oil finally SLOWLY makes its way up to the rockers/lifters and the ticking stops. Thing is, thats not good that its taking that long, and I know it is not just the cold because the engine can get up to full op temp and it will still tick. The ticking won't stop until I get it out on the road and the oil pump really starts pushing the oil. At idle, the oil is not circulating. Is this normal or not, because I left it idling for 40 mins once (i forgot i started it) and went out to leave finally and it was STILL ticking, but as soon as i got onto the highway it went away. I was hoping that the engine flush would basically remove all the built up crud and allow the oil to circulate more freely.

As far as oil changes go, the car has received Mobil 1 3,000 mile oil changes for the past 22k miles IIRC.
