Default I'm so f***ing pissed right now

So last night I'm driving my car, then I notice the yellow icon on my dash out of the corner of my eye, "Check oil level."

I thought nothing of it, so I stopped at pep boys, and bought two quarts of oil. Added one, the dipstick went to full.

This morning, I start it up, does it again, so I do the same.

I Get home from school!??

I go for a small drive

i get back, there'* a puddle of oil under my car (again)

Keep in mind, yesterday after school I noticed drops of oil, last night at jewel parking lot, i noticed oil, and this morning, and today i noticed it.

I go and jack my car up and set it on jackstands and I look where the oil pan seals or gaskets usually are, and I see white (like bathroom style) caulking

I said "Wtf.."

And unbolted the oil pan after I released all of the fluid

I look at the pan, sure as ****, it'* standard bathroom caulking. Supposedly they said "We also changed your oil pan gasket"

..yeah bullshit, I never knew you guys used caulking

I mean, I've got some Aviation grade form-a-gasket, but there wasn't even the actual gasket assembly.. just fricking caulking

I'm so angry

what the hell

And I took it to a different shop (one that usually does all work on my family'* cars..)

said he put pressure on my cooling system

there'* a leaking intake (which i know would go sooner or later)

..but this is ridiculous

$420 total for planned repairs

Ouch!!

So you're saying that the family shop did that caulking job??? Are you sure it wasn't a plumbing shop? J/K. Sheesh, did they charge you for a gasket? I do believe that I would have to have a talk with someone over that, after I had calmed down somewhat...

Also, you mention $420 for planned repairs. I assume that it includes the UIM replacement w/ new TB gasket and the LIM gaskets, and at least a new oil pan gasket. Are you going to do the work yourself or have it done somewhere you trust?

Whoa...hold on a second.

Highlander and I went to the dealer for an oil pan gasket and got told there was a required sealant. Looks greyish white and is called engine sealant. It'* supposed to keep the oil pans from leaking. You are leaking very quickly. Check your oil filter adapter.

Stamped. And the parts guys said it was a required. At the same time he handed us the aluminum frame gaskets w/o asking specifically for them for the lower intake. Apparently the part numbers are superceded

nonono

the shop at which i bought the car did that

the family shop just quoted me $420 with everything i need

i'm having it done at a shop who'* done every car repair for our family for the past 3 and a half years

the man who owns it lives two doors down from me

the guy i bought the car from works at a place called 'mr j'* motors' and mr j'* also has a garage (who did the oil pan job)

i'm having it done at a different shop and i'm just gonna pay myself

i went over everything

it was like form-a-gasket, but of an extremely poor quality at least

and no actual gasket

i checked the filter, that'* fine

He could bring it to me.. Intake and oil pan gasket are really easy...

And I was wondering do the planned repairs cover the Oil pan gasket( Its actually a combined oil pan gasket / Windage tray ) as well as the upper intake? and they would be fools if they did not replace the lower intake gaskets as well as the coolant bypass elbow..

Oil pan gasket ( roughly $50 )
Intake Gaskets ( roughly $35-50 )
Upper intake Manifold ( $150 )

If all of this is going to be done for $420, that would be a he** bent deal
i'm getting a 'preferred customer' discount

i'm cool with it

me and him just tore it apart at his shop and found it

he'* like 'hmm, bathroom caulking..not even gm sealant. cheap bastards'

i was like

WTF
