What do you think..again

1998 SSEi , leather, moon roof, 95K miles... drives good, plum color (like the 40th Anniversary color) HUD, CD, all the SSEi stuff... $4995... I really want this car... trying to come up with the $ , KBB says retails @ about $7k so im thinkin this is a steal, and if i could get cash I could prolly talk him down. Sorry to blather about such trivial things, but I think this might be the one!

that is NOT a steal, even if it was mint.

I KBB'd it at Excellent $5,515

My parents paid $5000 for their MINT 97 SSEi FOUR years ago

Here are some things to consider on the price:

Is it at a dealer or private party? KBB retail is for a dealer who's checked it out, and probably comes with at least a 30 day warranty (I think this is not just a NY thing.) If it is private party, look at the private party price to determine whether it's a steal, good deal, or priced right.

Condition is big. dents, scrapes, minor things not working are all things to use to haggle on the price. Rust is a big thing. If there is any decent rust, it's going to be much lower. If you want to know the main places to look for rust, ask and we can tell you. Also, tread life on tires, recent service history, and stuff like that is good to know so you know what you'll have to replace in the near future.

Check the price of other similar cars in the area and see what they are going for. Prices vary by region, but if you can find cars within 500 miles, it should give you a good idea of what they are going for.

All in all, I would say that if you can offer/get it for between $4000-4600, it seems like a decent deal, and if it's at a dealer with any sort of warrenty beyond 30 days, you might want to factor that in as well.

OH CRAP

well he sold it so its out of the question anyway, but I found a few things odd with the car after really thinking about how my test drive went, yes it ran good, but i really gave it some umph and was going 118... according to the hud, and when we got back to the lot... it was running fine, but smelled like oil... and one of the fenders (rear drivers) had flared out like it wasnt attached, minor details, but not if im forking over $5k for something that isnt in good shape... sad to see it go, but plum isnt my color anyway... :|
