now I heard this time after time about driving fast means you'll burn more gas.
right now my 93 l27 with the 2.84'* is getting a little under 300miles on a tank of gas. and I know I drive aggressive born and raised in new york it comes with the territory so my question is how bad can agressive driving affect mpg? and also what should a l27 with a 284 normaly get on a tank of gas? :?:

yes!

the more throttle, the more Gas you use. its not always the RPM its more of how far down the peddle is.

just like the SSEi'*. if they dont get into the Boost they get just as good MPG as the NA'*.

First off...let'* toss the tank of gas notation. Calculate miles divided by # of gallons. That is the only way to get a true MPG.

You want to understand how bad it can be. Knowing my not quite a city town. You understand where I'm driving. I have in the past seen 33mpg on my 97 SSEi...and I've also seen 16mpg.

That'* an aggressive driving difference of 17mpg.

I average 16-18 mpg but that'* because I have a lead foot. But the time my mom borrowed my car, she got 24 mpg. It'* all on how you drive it.

My 17 year old son averages about 17 mpg city driving on the 95 SSEi. When I drive it I get 25 city.

And you age a few months before reaching your destination.

In my GXP I normally average 18 with mixed driving but I have gotten 24.5 on the highway from Detroit to Kalamazoo. I didn't accelerate quickly and just set cruise at 65 the whole way. While it was a very long boring drive compared to normal (cruise at 7 I did get better milage. I still don't know if it'* worth losing the excitement of driving just to get better gas miliage. If it was really that important to me I guess I would have bought something that gets better MPG.

Driving fast doesn't necessarily mean worse MPG. On average, it seems our cars get better MPG at 70 than at 55. But, how quick you get to that speed, or any speed, will definitely have an affect. Romping the gas to get to speed is a lot more wasteful than gradually accelerating. Supposed to be the same for stopping, but I don't understand how.

So, yes, aggressive driving will burn more gas than "normal" driving. Which would explain my MPG being not as good as some people'*...

Yup I noticed that when I drive like a little old lady, I get great mileage. When I drive like I have a number on the side of my car - my numbers are right in the toilet. About the same as everyone else mentioned... big difference in mpg!
