weird 1995 SSEI

i was in the yard the other day- getting parts for my ECC woes- and I came accross a weird SSEi. It was a white 1995- with a black cloth interior, no power seats at all- all manual, the center console buttons were deleted, it had a moon roof- but no electronic climate control- and all the shift options including trac were missing. Ive never seen one with such stripped down options- but yet it had a moon roof. Ive also never seen a charcoal cloth or charcoal interior for that year- can anyone confirm this?

Hey Mike, What Yard do you go to?

OLBlueEyesBonne 01-30-2008 08:24 PM

Charcoal was used that year (started in 1994 or 1995) , but dual power seats were standard. Makes me wonder if this was a special one-off car. :?

Mike G 01-30-2008 08:35 PM

Peter- standard in scarbs.. 8) .not sure if its going to be there much longer...

Olblue- I wondered if it may have been somthing like that too- Ive seen some oddly optionenend Bonnes latley.

All cloth is fairly uncommon in the SSEi, but not unheard of. Are you sure it didn't have seat controls on the seats themselves (AL6)?

Mike G 01-30-2008 09:14 PM

yes Bill thats what I thought too- its was ALL manual. I wish I had my camera- this would have been interesting to take a few pics of. I was blown away- then there were two manual adjusters on the drivers seat :?

It's probably that someone in the situation I have with my 94 got sick of electronic seat issues and went to any seats he could get. My driver's side seat doesn't move except for up and down, back and forth, and switching to the passenger seat keeps the driver's side moving with no action with the passenger seat. I can't say I'm not tempted to "fix" this. Because of this severe frustration (work in progress), I can see how the owner of that car could have gone to a jy and gotten some functional seats. Plus, not all SSEis are special cars to their owners, and the guy must have chosen pragmatism over SSEiness.

I've never been to a yard yet in this area re Bonne Parts. What was the pricing like Mike?

TheDude 01-31-2008 07:00 PM

Are you sure it wasnt one of those rare supercharged SE's? My 95 SE has the charcoal cloth interior with column shift and a drivers side power split bench seat. Power windows and locks are about the only options. It is a basic package (rental unit) and I like it like that. Less gadgets and gizmos to go haywire.

Mike G 01-31-2008 07:17 PM

all very good points on these options here.
Randonthegreat- thats is a good point- but everything in the interior matched including the headliner, carpet and all the seating. There is always the possibility- but this would have been a lot of work to do.

Maymybonnelive forever- Standard auto wreckers in scarborough...I can give u more info on a PM

Dude-
Its definitly not one of the rare SC SE's. Its trimmed out like an SSEi with all the emblems and body cladding. but either way- a rare care indeed. Would have been intetresting to see it unsmashed and intact...but also a good point about the options..

Keep the thoughts comming...

It could be an engine swap. Though it would be tough, I've read about a couple before, so it shouldn't be too rare to find one. It may have been a very lowly optioned 96-99 SLE or 92-99 SSE. Whatever it may be (or may have been), I think it's awesome.

rjolly87 02-01-2008 09:37 AM

could have been badged and cladded by a previous owner ;)

Would be cool if you could grab a vin for confirmation

zuper8 02-01-2008 05:21 PM

I've actually come across a 96 Ei with the EXACT same options as you describe, except it did have one power seat. It also had the chrome T-stars too, oddly enough :?

There are some SSEi's out there that are stripped down to the bottom of the barrel toys...

If you find a car like that its usually an ordered car as the SSE and SSEi 1SA and 1SB option packages were pretty well loaded as they were.... Only way to not have some of the options was through Option deletes..

Lets have a gander at Sandrocks 1994 SSE...

It has Leather AL6 seats....
Steering Wheel controls
ELC
Gold Crosslace Wheels
Pwr Antenna

What it doesn't have

No Hud
No Moon Roof
No ECC
No Keyless
No AL7's
No Audio System with the Gain amp..

He has a very strange SSE Bonneville.... Its almost like an SLE with the SSE Body Kit and add the Compass and Driver Information... LOL... Yet it handles like its on Rails

His 1993 SSEi has every option....LMAO

Probably more than every option!

Having an SSEi like the one you found in the junkyard is probably good for weight savings. It would be interesting when tuned up and on the track. Quite the sleeper except for the badges and bumpers.
