It helps if you run an L36, the Series II NA engine, since the upper intake manifold then has less of a chance of warping and having coolant leak mix with oil. For other engines, it'* not as important. It should help a teeny bit so that your car makes maybe a fraction of a horsepower more, but that'* about it, as far as I know.

it also is good for your tranny, because heat is the enemy of transmissions, and (i think) your transmission is cooled by the coolant in the radiator. so colder coolant will cool your transmission more. that'* about the only reason i have a 180 still in my car.
