Default Remote features?

Hello everyone,

I do not have a manual to my '94 SSE and was wondering if you can make the horn beep or lights flash when you lock and unlock the car using the remote? Is there a certain keypress involved to set that? Also any sort of panic feature on the remote? Mine is the 3- button (from top tpobottom left to right, Lock, Trunk, Unlock)

Thanks

I did a custom install of a remote keyless entry, they needed to rewire in order to get the parking lights to flash once for lock and twice for unlock.

It should be possible. We have some electrical geniuses on this site, they'll get it for ya

unfortunately, no, you can't do it. :( I think on the 96+ models they may do that, but I'm not sure.

No, not on the factory keyless-entry systems (even with the factory security system). Most any aftermarket keyless-entry, alarm and/or remote-starter package will do that, however.

An aftermarket box usually flashes the vehicle lights by tapping into the brown wire coming out of your headlight switch, which controls the exterior lighting circuit (all exterior lamps except headlights). The box sends its own 12-volt feed into the brown wire to turn on (or blink) the lights when it wants to.

Depending on the brand of box, it will send out either a full-amperage load that lights the lamps directly, or a low-amperage pulse that'* used only to close a relay, and that relay will in turn switch on power to the lighting circuit.

Although the pulse is usually used for blinking the vehicle lights, you can just as easily use it to honk the horn or do whatever else you want with it, as long as you know how to wire this stuff. Some late-model systems now blink the turn signals instead of the parking lights, which is just as do-able with the older systems but requires a bit more wire-splicing.

Also any sort of panic feature on the remote?
Nope. Again, this is a case where you can add an aftermarket box if you want this feature.

I've added a BulldogSecurity remote starter to my '93 SSEi, using its keyless-entry/trunk-release features in place of the car'* own systems, and so mine will blink its lights as you describe, but you do have to be careful in how you wire in kits like this, because you're no longer using the car'* own controllers and thus may have some unintended side-effects.

I don't mean disasters like frying the ECM (which is not really a risk); I mean subtle things like whether or not the security system will arm itself when you lock the car using an aftermarket box instead of the car'* original transmitter. In this particular case, you must connect the aftermarket Lock/Unlock circuit to the wires at the _outside_ driver'* door key lock, not the inside rocker switch, so that the car thinks you're outside, locking it with a key (which arms the system), rather than sitting inside, locking it with the inside switch (which does _not_ arm the system unless the door is open at the time). This little detail is not covered by the aftermarket instructions; you have to figure it out for yourself...

Things start out so simple and sometimes get so complicated, don't they?

Thanks for the great response to my q'*. I think I'll stick with the factory keyless entry and alarm and leave it at that.

Thanks again,
_peace

Appledj2, do a search (I'm too lazy, sorry!) in the forums for Owners Manuals. Someone posted the link to Pontiac.com where they have all the owners manuels online in PDF format.

Or sign up with MyGMLink.com, GM'* owner center. I've got a PDF copy of my owners manual from the for just in case.
