Default Transmission Fluid

Lately, I have been noticing difficulty easily coming by Dexron VI. It seems many manufacturers are starting to make this sort of fluid:
https://www.autozone.com/motor-oil-a...uid/260526_0_0

Keywords typically include "OEM Approved" and "Low Viscosity".

What is happening? What is this stuff? Is it safe to use? Is the licensing up for Dexron VI, and we are seeing the latest iteration of "manufacturers calling it what they want because they can"?

^ That bottle also states suitable for Toyota Auto transmissions ...ah what is this?
If it does not specifically state Dexron 6 I'd pass on it. There are many specific licensed brands like Mobil1 for instance.

IDK what has happened though to the GM listing of licensed DEX 6 products. It seems to have disappeared from the web.

I just ordered 24 bottles. $3.68 a quart is unbeatable, and wreaks of a product being phased out by the great Wallyworld retailer. None of the stores in the area have this stuff in stock any more, which further adds to the suspicion.

Supply and demand. You must have bought most of it so the robots raised the price.

I've noticed that The Walmart lets brands or grades run out of stock for a bit right before a new reshaped bottle arrives.
