Transmission Break In & Cooler
 

Will be getting my GM Remanufactured transmission tomorrow. Are there any special break-in techniques? How long before I go WOT? The engine has 94K on it, so that is broken in.

Thinking about adding a transmission cooler this winter to prevent another failure (especially if slight modification is in the future). What is the recommended one of choice?

On an Automatic Transaxle there is no break in procedure or technique. Drive it, however, if it fails early, any good mechanic can tell if it failed because it was abused.
Adding a cooler can't hurt at all, it will help keep the fluid temps down, which is good for any hydraulic system.

I asked Todd and TIm after my rebuild about a breakin. They said go out and hammer it. :lol:

Todd and Tim told me to let it get up to temp before hammering on it.

It was already up to temp when I got it back from their testing ;)

That's for sure, I made sure to give mine a WOT blast not more then 100ft from Intense's shop.

on the trans cooler, i would not recommend one if you have a 180, and the PCM programmed to turn on the fans

if you do not have the fan turn on at 180 and dont plan to, then add the cooler....i saw very high trans temps before the PCM installed, now that i have the PCM and the fans changed, i see much lower temps

A good rule of thumb with any hydraulic system is to wait until the oil temp reaches 130 F before placing it under heavy load.

My general rule on that is it doesn't move til it's at 100*, and doesn't get more than 1/2 throttle till it's at running temp.
