Trans Build - "Worst We've Ever Seen" Several Pics

I got my car for 1/2 of bluebook because the supercharger was rattling and it had harsh shifts. I just spent more on the trans build than I did on the car but it was 100% worth it.

Here is a brief overview:

245MM ATI street torque converter - I forget the stall speed
Drilled Flexplate
Hardened 4th gear clutch shaft
4T65E/-HD Pawl-Style Input and 3rd Sprag Kit
Improved 2nd Clutch Kit Improved 2nd Clutch Kit
Improved 3rd Clutch Kit Improved 3rd Clutch Kit
Overdrive Clutch Kit
Dynamat False Knock Elimination Kit
Pressure Control Solenoid
Torque Converter Solenoid
Shift Solenoids
Wiring Harness
Modified (drilled) Transgo shift kit - not 100% sure understanding this

anyway, 3 weeks later I get a call letting me know its done (some part was on backorder). I can say it feels like a totally different car now. I put the crappy bald tires on there so the trans shop did not burn up my 18's.

As far as the point of this topic goes, the conclusion at the shop was that it was the "worst they have ever seen on a 4t65" in regards to the clutch wear. nearly every clutch was worn all the way down. The 4th clutch shaft was getting there too. Basically i was one drive away from total disaster.

My 93 also had a semi-performance oriented trans in it with a shift kit along with a vaccum modulator. the shifts on the 98 are signifcantly more powerful and fast. the tires will chirp at the 1-2 shift on smooth pavement.

We'll see how it holds up. Here are the pics...I'm also interested into seeing pictures of others clutches...thats the point of this thread.

I will get better pics later. Here are some teasers.

Looks like you had this taken care of just in time. You buy the parts from Intense and have a local shop put it all together? Mind if I ask what the final damage to your wallet was?

Sounds like your shift kit was installed with the most aggressive spring(s?) possible; I myself wouldn't like shifts that wild for street use.

The shop bought some parts from INTENSE, some parts from the dealer, some parts from their supplier which was slightly cheaper than INTENSE.

Total Damage was $2500, 50/50 parts and labor.

That last pic looks a lot like Boosty's did, if not a little better. The new trans sounds great!

This does not belong in 92-99 since there is no particular problem to diagnos/fix...moving to General. 8) Oh Duh...Hans! You've been on the forum longer than me....

Glad to hear the '98 is healthy, again.....soooo.....dos that mean your racing BOTH days at Woodburn this year? ;)

Awesome...

You must be a super happy tire smoker.. 8)

My parts did look very similar..and Tim was impressed with how well timed my arrival was based on the parts.

Enjoy...and consider an LSD ... OMG.. what an improvement the LSD makes.

I'm hoping to be the next to post pictures of all the chewed up parts in my transmission. Though I don't think it's close to as bad as Bill's or Hans, but give me time cause I'm working on it.
:D

Congratulations Hans. :D

That's a big investment and what's important is that you believe it was worth............and I'm sure it is. 8)

A LSD does make a nice improvement.........if you don't mind wagging your nose.

You will be racing both days at Woodburn.
