Shell 93 with a bottle of chevron techron every 3 fill-ups

I use Murphy USA at Wal-Mart, 93 Octane and haven't had any problems.

Used to use Murphy USA in my cars about 4 or 5 years ago.

My 96 Z28 6 speed was able to get a max of 25.xx mpg on highway trips with Murphy 93 octane over almost a year of using that fuel...which I knew was not as good as it could do, and I believed it was the gas I was using.

I was right, as I switched to Sinclair and Shell in my hometown and on the same trips that over the past year I was never able to get over 25.xx mpg, my first tank of GOOD gas resulted in 29.xx mpg.

In disbilief I continued to use the good gas which to my amazement was actually the same price as the Murphy gas and I continued to get good mileage and was even able to break the 30mpg barrier on some long trips and my average mileage on all tanks went up roughly 3+ mpg as well. I even went so far as to go back to the Murphy station a few months later and try their fuel one more time to weed out the possibility that my better mileage was coincidental.. which it wasn't.. my mileage once again went down for that tank.

Since then I only use Top Tier brands in my cars, even if it costs $.05 per gallon more, as the better mileage will make up the difference and then some.

We don't have any of the top tier gas around here. I stick with Mobil 93 octane. Never tried BP but we do have 1 a few miles away.

I use RaceTrac because it'* the cheapest and closest to the house. If I wanted to drive just a little bit further I could get Sunoco. If I wanted to drive even further I could get QuikTrip.

There'* BP, Shell, Texaco, Chevron, and a ton of other randoms too. Been getting the right MPGs out of all my vehicles from RaceWay gas. Been half tempted to try Sunoco, think I might in the bike at the next fillup.

Speedway is owned by Marathon.

As to the fuels, I was told that there are only a handful of suppliers in this part of the country and the fuel all comes to their tank farms. Then the various other "brands" pick up the fuel and add their own additives/additive levels to that same fuel. So it'* partly the additive packages.

I do know there'* a tank farm 30 or so miles from here along a main highway for a brand of fuel with their name all over it. Then across the side road there'* another tank farm with no name on the tanks. I haven't sat and watched but I suspect they are the same fuel stock out of the pipelines, and the other branded or noname trucks pick up at the side farm while the main brand for the company picks up at the one with the national label all over it.

Then in this area everything is 10% ethanol. I keep getting a sense from some posts that a few stations have fuel that'* not 10% ethanol, implying it'* 0% or less than 10%.

I do know that area Shell stations offer an additional 5 cents off the V-power. I mixed it with the regular that was in and used only premium for a while. When the steps are 10 cents and 12 cents, the 5 off makes it much better to buy premium and occasionally regular than to buy the mix of the two called Plus, which may not be 50/50.

My take on gasoline is that'* it'* pretty much all the same although I avoid Shell 87 octane. I too am a believer in Techron, no problems with injectors after 116k on a 04 Bonne. Same car got 32.3 mpg on a round trip from Charleston,SC to Nashville with a side trip on the Blue Ridge Mtns with an altitude change of 5000 ft. My take: if you drive a normally aspirated 3800, buy the cheapest gas, throw in a bottle of Techron when you can get it on sale, sometimes Advance Auto has it 2 for 1, or bogo as my wife refers to it, course she thinks I'm a miser, and yes proud of it

back in hobart, i used speedway cause i got fuel points to get free crap (got $60 worth of microsoft points on xbox for just buying gas) but here since there are no speedways i use costco. never less than ten cents cheaper. on costco gas i can pull 3 more mpg than at the local shell. not sure where costco gets their gas.

I always use speedway or shell my wife goes to bp or speedway but our bp is owned by "indians" and the store is very dirty and run down with alot of old stock that and they hardly know english and rarely know how much there stuff costs they ask you lol
