Timing Advance!!!!>????
 

Ok i was reading my monitor program
and the last few days my average spark advance was like 40* !!! Is that considered a bad thing... at WOT it went down a little but still stayed around the 20-30* mark

That is quite a bit of advance...notice any undetected pinging or detonation??

Nope i cant seem to hear anything wrong. My car runs excelent minus some lower engine knocking (sound like something rubber hiting something metal) that gets worse as the engine and trans warm up and is only noticable at idle.....

i doubt this is the case but ill say it anyways, rubber hitting metal is exactly what my broken harmonic balancer sounded like at idle. wounldnt hurt to have a look-see :wink:

Actually that sounds about right. There's rubber around the harmonic balancer.

i though it was my supercharger, so i changed it. $1500 dollars later. i found out it was my harmonic balancer. but needed a new sc anyways. look for a small ripp or tear mark around the outer part of the puley. if this is the problem, make sure to change the crank sensor also. the rubbing metal noise could mean the pulley is shifting hitting the sensor. Need instructions, let me know.

On a lighter note, the way i discovered it was the harmonic balancer making the noise was i asked my dad to "show me how strong he was by turning the crank" (the serpintine was off at the time and we were spinning the pullies and using a mechanics stethiscope) and he put his hands down to the crank and BOOM! he could turn the balancer and the crank remained stationary. :D

Yes... I would really like to fix this.. If you could post a quick summary of the process (ichiltons will help me the rest of the way) and how much its ooking to get a new one would be GREAT...!!! thanks for the help!

Right, if you can turn the pulleys by hand back and forth when the engine is off, then your harmonic balancer is probably shot.
