Default Oil Change

Im curious where do you usually get your oil changed and how much do you pay?

I just recently took my lacrosse to the dealer for an oil change and tire rotation. $52.00! The only good part is the dealer will wash your car for free. Here in dusty central California that is a weekly routine. (Its sad when you know all the employees at the local car wash)

Oh, btw one other little question. They got a little bit of oil on the plastic engine cover. Can anybody recommend something to clean off the oil.

Before I started doing it myself I would get charged around $30-40 for an oil change at dealerships. It'* definitely nicer doing it yourself. Especially since a GM dealer will probably charge $12 for the filter that costs $4 in stores.

And I always washed my car before I took it in and told them NOT to wash it. They use brushes that I'm sure they don't keep clean. I don't want to pay $30 for an oil change and to have my paint scratched.

when we took nancys car to other places to do it, roughly $25 was the average.

now i do it, and its about $20. the difference is that i know what kind of oil is going in it as well as what quality the oil filter is. and it doesnt take very long.

When I have an oil change done for me I take it to a local Meineke. The owner and/or his wife are there a lot and are nice people - I talk to them whenever I'm there. A semi-synthetic and filter change usually costs me about $25.

I avoid the Jiffy-Lube type places. Way too many horror stories to even chance it.

I used to go to a local chain (Lube-Pros) Never had a problem, theres not even a complaint about them on any of those horror websites. Normally $35 after tax for a oil change. Since a friend showed me how easy it was. I do it myself now with Mobil 1 and the Mobil 1 filter. (AKA the good **it )

Local Advance has 5 qts and the filter for $30. Not bad.

Yes, Thats right. I can actually do something with my car all by myself now! Crazy!

I only let someone else do my oil when I'm super busy. Otherwise, I've been chainging my own fluids since I was 16. Oil is easier to do it yourself than waste time driving to a lube place and to wait in line to have it done for you when it can be done at home faster.

Mobil 1 5W-30 = $22
Mobil Oil filter = $8

Total = $30

According to my friend who wanted synthetic in his low-mileage, 99 V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the equivalent price @ Spiffy Lube would be $79.99 + tax, and oil all over the steering wheel when finished.
