I just prefer a tighter ride (I'm old but I like high speed exit ramps.... LOL) and don't want to feel like I'm riding in a mushy grandpa mobile. Crap, I am a grandpa so I suppose that logic is out the darn window. I can't find a car seat with a roll bar or a Hans Device for toddlers either.

On a more serious note, thanks for the info and inputs!! The beauty of a forum is the combined years of knowledge and experience and the help!!

On a lighter note Mike, I just found Rock offers the conversion kit for $101.79 OR, they have single replacement shocks from the kit for $19 each and the bearing mounts included in the kits for $15.64 each for a total of right on $70!!!! I'm gonna save the $30 extra dollars and order it as single pieces. Thanks for the tip on the conversion kit being shocks instead of an airline kit like I had assumed when I saw it listed.

Um, do those shocks come with the load springs? That'* probably why they are so cheap. Your just buying the shocks and not the load springs. You need both of them.

But 5 or years down the road, you will only need to replace the shocks and not the springs.

They are the exact same shock Mike from the kit with the helper spring according to Monroe'* part numbers. The picture shows the same thing but I checked numbers anyway since they sometimes use the stock picture or an incorrect one.

By the way, I have been hearing this stupid sound kind of like interference in the radio or something. Turns out it apparently is the damned compressor running so maybe it isn't toast after all. I backed the car down the driveway to get it level to check the tranny fluid after installing the new pan and filter today and I heard that noise again. Seems the car decided it wasn't level enough..... Maybe I'll just freshen up the springs and install some new air shocks and keep it original. I just hate the thought of having to only do 55 instead of 75 on a 35MPH curve or exit!!!! hehehe

Why are we using springs/shocks to address the complaint of roll? I would start with stabilizer/sway bars myself along with chassis reinforcement <strut tower bars>. You can source some from a GXP usually.

I have the factory sway bars but since the shocks are pretty rotted, changing them to a firmer shock and replacing the 13 year old springs would both help reduce part of the roll the car has acquired over the years. Sway bars can only be fully effective if the rest of the suspension isn't weak, worn and working against them instead of with them in emergency maneuvers or just doing a weekend slalom course run. Actually, worn out shocks and older stock springs can be worse than most stock sway bars that are on the smallish side. After looking at the stock end links, they'll be getting replaced by Moog Polyurethane sets which is a necessary upgrade to help control roll also.

However, the first order of business is replace the stock shocks with shredded rubber sleeves and corrosion and it makes more sense finding the ones that will best suit the overall final goal and work with the sway bar as well as possible. First things first.

Randall, I agree with you 100% also on the addition of a STB but a quality, truly functional and sturdy brace for the Bonnie is a pipe dream from what I've found so far. As for the GXP strut tower brace, I'll pass on that piece and am investigating having one fabricated down the road. The GXP piece is actually built for looks more than function. The ends are thin shock tower plates of soft, stamped metal, mounted at a severe angle to boot, which allows way too much flex and movement. The bar having multiple bends adds extra flex points on the bar and the cheap pressed connectors. From the shipping weight, the bar is either hollow or a cheap light weight metal which totally reduces it'* ability to do its main function. Everything about it says it'* more for looks and is a feel good accessory with little to no actual engineering effort in it'* design. It fails in every important area needed to do what it should do and truly reinforce the vehicle rigidity. They do look cool though!

you dont want monroe shocks, thats what will make it ride like a buick. and the springs on this car are only like half or less of supporting the weight of the car. thats why i got what i did, the kyb oem air shocks restore original sse/ssei type handling because they are just like oem but tuned better. you just have to have some way to put air in the shocks because just because you hear it doesnt meen its doing anything. mine was running too but it was all leaking out the shocks and it destroyed itself. so you get the tire valve fill kit i listed for 10bucks and dont worry about leaks again, and it handles as it did stock or better

That is exactly the type info I was hoping for so I don't pick up parts that will disappoint me later. Wasted money on parts sucks! And I sure don't want it riding worse. I found some variable rate Raybestos Professional Series branded springs and the KYBs should work fine with them!!!! Thank you for the heads up! It'* off to order more shizzle!!

didnt replace the springs on mine. i never do, but seems much less important on this because you can compensate for any sag with more air. well once the spring in the back of my moms imp was completely broke, but normally they sag together and it doesnt hurt anything unless you are talking about a truck or something. i keep my cars 2 to 300k so i think if there was some issue with that i would have found out
