Default A couple of quck 3.8L series 2 UIM/LIM questions

Hello,

My haynes says to put sealant on one side of the LIM gasket if they are metal, I assume this is incorrect when using the aluminum frame gaskets. Anyone know for sure?

I've got the LIM soaking in cleaner, whats the best way to clean the runners in the heads themselves?

Thanks,
Tim

Not sure how this slipped past us w/o someone answering..

Do not use any gasket maker on the LIM or UIM gaskets. No need and they aren't designed for it.

Sorry for the late response.

Too late and I didn't use any except for the LIM front and rear seal in the corner where it meets the alum frame gasket. (They had some there on the original.)

Also, the 96 (10/95 manufacture date) doesn't have the aligment holes for the front and rear seals, for what its worth.

Right. The locator pin holes appear in the end rails of the engine block in mid-year 1997. That'* why there are 4 FelPro gaskets listed for the 3800 for that year. But we have had several members use the newer design gaskets with end rail pins on the older design successfully. The pins just hang over the end rail.

Count me in. Hell, I didn't know I was missing something. They sat right in place, and I had no problem lining it all up. Absolutely no leaks, and I'd be able to see them, as I had the heads worked (and cleaned, of course), as well as the LIM cleaned and blasted.
