SSEi towing.....?
 

Hi everyone.

Does anyone have experience with towing a trailer with the SSEi? Just curious how it worked as far as any problems encountered. I'm a little uneasy with the idea so was looking for any feedback from someone who's been there....done that....don't want to burn up a tranny.....would be cheaper to rent a truck.....

Mine is a 2001.....any thought appreciated....

I would recommend getting an external trans cooler.

What do you plan on towing?

Biggest question is what you plan on towing?

5X8 Uhaul trailer....hauling a bed and dresser

According to U-haul's website, the trailer EMPTY is 900lbs. That may be pushing the limits of a stock SSEi when that trailer is loaded.

X3. I pulled a utility trailer at times wth a Park Ave/same dive train, We have a few members here that will prolly chime in. I don't agree with the trans cooler. Waste of time and money IMO. If you put enough torque against a T6xe to warrant a trans cooler, your going to break something anyway so why bother. Many members have stated they have pulled light to moderate loads (carefully) without problems. If you want to pull a ski boat or travel trailer, get a truck.

I'm gonna disagree John. The primary cause of transmission failures is due to excessive heat build up. Quite common with the 4L60-E's also. Especially during the hot summer days.

How long of a trip, over what kind of roads <uphill both ways, flat, mountains>?

I had a few apart/seen more over alot of years. Almost all had broken pieces/parts like the recent thread of Dan's. Torque related, not heat related. Fluids almost always still normal, not burnt. I think a mountian being made over a cross town trip with a small uhaul trailer. Prolly the same thing I pulled many times with my Buick.
