Cracked intake manifold
I`m looking to buy a later Bonneville than my `94. I`ve been told that the intake manifold is made out of plastic starting in `95 and that cracking is a big problem. What can you tell me about this? Does GM have a better replacement part or do you just replace it with the same quality unit and it does it again? Please let me know all the things you know about this problem.

N/A units have this problem, so if you get a supercharged model you don't have to worry about this. But they require premium gas, and insurance is higher, especially for kids. There is no replacement yet for the intake, except for a custom aftermarket one that has been pushed around. I know some of the vendors here are working on a new metal intake. They have some nice ones though, with free-er flowing pipes etc. GM has not recalled this problem, even though the engine is on many many vehicles and is still produced, it must be caught quick or it creates an strong acidic solution with oil and eats at rods, and also seizes the engine.
