personally, i think of it as SuperSportEditionInducted
the first * means nothing....its basically like them saying its twice as good as an SE...lol...but like older cars? SS like impala SS or something, well just think of it that way with an E for edition and an i for inducted

It has no relation whatsoever to the SS designation of the sister-division Chevrolet. NOTHING.
The ONLY designation that actually is an acronym is SLE. It was originally a package available on the SE model, and later became a badged model itself. Other than that, LE, SE, SSE, SSEi, and GXP are not acronyms with any meaning whatsoever. I got this personally from GM myself.

LE SE and SLE make sence if they were acronyms...i wonder why its just the SLE with that...
and i can see they just added letters for the SSE and SSEi unless it did mean something but it doesn't...

Let'* try something new here. Let'* not perpetuate this by everyone chiming in and saying what it means to them or SHOULD mean. Quite often, this is interpreted as truth, and it makes convincing people of the real facts quite difficult.
The only badging model designation that means anything is SLE. LE, SE, SSE, SSEi, and GXP mean nothing as far as acronyms go. Think of them as RPO codes. Z71 for example, wasn't a model. It was an RPO designation defining skid plates, Bilstein shocks, and a different spring rate.
Pontiac does not use acronyms to designate trim levels for Bonnevilles.

that is why the SLE is so cool....its the only one that means something 
and yes it makes sense because the SLE is a Package that you can get on the SE, and the Package is called the Sport Luxury Edition...
SSE had there own special VIN as did the SSEi'*, where as the SLE shared the same VIN as the SE
It makes sense if you thingk about it
