spark plug advice please
Ok Im changing out my plugs, im running ngk iridiums now but wanna try something different. Hows copper? I think a few here are using them. When I priced the out they were the cheapest ones, Iv always said you get what you pay for. Now the iridiums are quit costly compared to copper (copper being the cheapest they carry and iridiums being the most expensive). I know platinums are out of the question. Any suggestions?
I really want to change them today so please feel free to voice you opinions. Oh ya is the proper gap 60 thou? |
I know people swear by the iridiums, but I noticed in another thread that Will mentioned copper are okay as well, just don't fire quite as hot or as regularly as the iridiums, I would think. I guess it's more up to personal preference and trial and error.

You don't like the iridiums? I have delco, no need to switch for now. 60 is right for gap, and i'd say keep the nicer ones in there personally.

The main thing you want to look at in plugs is the heat range. In talking with intense last weekend when we did Kendra's car I found out that they run copper in all their comp cars. Iridiums will last a lot longer so if you dont want to change your plugs every 15 or 20K miles go with those. Iridiums like platinum are a harder metal and should last upwards to 75K miles depending on how you drive and the gas you use. Copper is great but will wear out much quicker. You want to match the heat range of the plugs to your mods. If you running lightly modded got a 1 step cooler range. Medium modded 2 steps...Most of the intense cars are running 4 steps cooler I think....

Another one of my dumb questions here. In checking the plugs I noticed when I pulled #4 and had a good look at it I was able to smell "unburned" fuel,(not sniffing it but about a foot away from my face) but not on #1 or any of the others. Why would that be? |
that would probably be a bad wire or an improperly gapped plug. If you find BOTH plugs associated with one coil in that condition, it's a coil. But with only one fouled plug, you're usually looking at a wire, and it's usually one of the rear (2,4,6).

;) Glad I was right for once.
When you figger out which plugs you're gonna use, let me know, as I plan on going one or two heat ranges colder next time. I'd like to stick with my NGK V-Power plugs if I can. |
