Default Trunk springs!

YEah that'* right trunk springs. I was gonna post this in the 87-91 section but most people read here first.

Here is the problem. Tonight while trying to help Renée'* sister get her Intrepid started, we added some fule and put the empty container in the trunk. Well a couple minutes later I was opening the drivers door and we all heard a really loud and unusall sound. I come to find out later tonight when I went to get my stuff from teh trunk that the lid won't stay open.

The spring on the drivers side snapped adn I only have one left on the passenger side. Is that a dealer only thing and if so Maybe Deathrat can get me a guesstimate for it.

It looks pretty simple to fix and I am not sure if the 92 and up use the spring on each side or if it was a tension bar.

suprising how heavy that trunk lid can be, gotta watch the fingers till I get it fixed.

Yeah it broke, I checked. the hook end is MIA, I will find it later. As soon as I heard the noise I thought back to when my front spring on my truck broke, but I didn't see the car move. So I figured I would find out what it was, and I did.

I know I need a new one but just trying to figure out if it is a dealer only thing. I thought it was kinda strange too but if you figure the car is about 14 years old and those springs are under constant pressure. I figure if they are not too expensive I will change both just to be safe and keep that other one for a spare.

87-91. Not sure on price. May not be supported by GM any more.

Well I am sad to say that Willwren is no longer the PARTSMASTER, lol. The number you gave me comes out as a marker light or something.

BUT we did find the right listing for it ( number is in the car) BUT they are discontinued AND no other dealer has one.

SO| off to the wrecking yard and go out to find soem, well I found the black SSE that already had the trunk open, so the parts puller guy got his rachet and we removed BOTH. I now have a spare one.

while I was talking to him I asked about a Strut Tower Brace. I explanied what it was and he said OH those, we have on inside. So back inside we go and they are dismanteling a buick Lesabre, not sure what year and frankly don't care, lol. There it is bar and brackets.

So I grab all my findings and head to the office ( I have been there many times over the years). Not knowing how much it will cost, he turns to me and says , "How'* 20$ for everything!".

I didn't have cahs on me so I had to pay an extra 3$ for the damn taxes, still for 23$ I got a STB and 2 springs.

So maybe tonight while we are at Renée'* sisters house for New Year'* eve party I will change the spring for her adn maybe even install the STB

Well I figured since I was there I might as well ask, and just a coincidence that they were dismantling a lasabre right there.

Just dumb luck I guess. And for the price I paid I have no complaints.
