Default 4.3L Oil Filter

I hear they fit.. what is the advantage of one, does anyone know the pin number for the K&N one, and what are/could be some disadvantages?

Right here on BC. I recently read OLDsman105'* signature, which read:

1996 Oldsmobile LSS

3800 series 2 N/A .
Gutted airbox , 4.3 liter oil filter( i did it for fun)
Which spiked my interest again, since I am ever curious of any mods I can do.

a longer filter will fit on mine. It used to have [what I believe to be] a 4.3L filter, because I replaced it with one that was 3cm shorter. If I remembered the formula correct, 4.3L is equal to 260 CI, correct? So, I can just get like an '85 bonneville 260CI oil filter, right?

I don't know the K&N numbers, but for fram they are 3387(the normal size) and 3980(the longer one) The only difference between the two is that you'll need to add more oil cuz the filter will absorb more of it.

I know BonneMe used(or still is) a 4.3 filter. It hanged down just a little bit. Theres other parts of the cars body that would get damaged before the filter though.

Yep, I've got the oil cooler (running stock filter). Being an '89, does yours have one, Justin?

No clue.. where would it be at? The 3.8L filter in there now sits about 3" from anything [have to double check that]. Is the oil cooler something which mounts on the filter? like a heatsink?
