running 2 alternator's. can it be done.?

is it possible to connect a second alternator to a 92-99 bonneville and get it to work with the system.. ? (meaning a higher charge and amperage.?

possible, yes, anything is. this is something that you would have to fabricate, or have custom done, probably very pricey for someone to do.

obviously doing it yourself would be drastically cheaper.

Why not just a high amperage unit that meets your desired total output?

99bonne 01-04-2008 03:56 PM

what are you trying to acomplish with it? Usally they make higher voltage ones for high output stereo systems ect. but to throw on another just seems overkill on power, time, and the wallet.

Isn't that why you'd use a higher output alternator with a 2nd battery hidden somewhere else?

Using 2 Alternators is going to be a lot more of a draw on the motor than one heavy-duty unit...

Yup, expect a dip in performance. You're looking at fabricating bracket to mount the alt to, not to mention you'll need to figure out belt routing as well as larger belt.

samueljackson 01-04-2008 10:17 PM

well, the drag wouldnt be that bad. i dont think it would be more than the ac compressor.

thats why a car with no ac would be ideal. bc, the routing would be exactly the same if the extra alt went where the comp was. you would just need a smaller belt.

and i think two 140 amp alternators would be provide more longevity than a re-spun 250 - 300 amp cs alt. and probably cheaper and much easier to come by.
