I used to have a T shifter but today I bought one of the leather one from a Bonne which they also used in GPs. Is there a longer shift boot with these ones? Mines seems too short. How hard is it to change out the boot if it is longer?

You mean the cobra head? Yes, it needs to be longer. You'll need to carefully take apart the donor car'* console. Or make your own boot out of some black vinyl or leather.

No, the shaft itself was cut down in 95 I believe. I put a round one on too and had the same problem, it got annoying so I took it off and put my t-handle back on. See my car here -

I went with a Leather 2000 shifter in the Zilla and made my own shift boot out of an old leather jacket.

I've gone to a rubber 2000 SE shifter in the SLE, but haven't made a boot for it yet.

I've got an old post around here somewhere on all the shifter types with pics, and another topic on the home-made boot.

Mine has a Cobra head too, boot is definitely shorter (or shaft is longer). I have a nice leather jacket (well, it used to be nice before I stood in the rain with it on for 3 hours). I'll be making a boot for it soon. Though I'd like myself a 2000+ Bonneville shifter **** instead.

EDIT: Yeah Bill I remember your post about it. I've been looking for a 2000+ leather shifter for a while.

Bill, how exactly did you make the boot? i.e. how did you close the other side of it..opposite of the original seam?

Sewed it by hand inside-out, then flipped it. Top is folded over and sewn inside out also. All seams are hidden on the inside.

Ok...I figured you did something inside out, I didn't know if you actually sewed it or did something else. I'll probably staple some seams on the inside.
