Remove and replace a sunroof in 92-99

I'm working on a writeup with some pictures, however 99% of the procedure is covered in the threads we have about recovering a headliner.

Overall, lowering the headliner was the hardest part due to the number of parts to get it down. Once it is down, remove a bunch of screws like Sonoma mentioned (leaving a certain 2 in to hold things together), remove the motor and two screws at the back, then lift out.

Before putting the new one and motor in, you time/syncronize them both per fhe fsm instruction. The motor automatically stops where it needs to be and you verify the position of a large wheel on it. The track is synch'd by moving it forward to make sure a "trolley pin" lines up with the 4th rib of the track, this is visible when the roof is in the car and easy to line up.

If you removed the glass..adjust it.

Test it a bunch of times and button it back up.

We have long marvelled at the mysteries of the sunroof. It's no mystery and it's not one third as hard as we have made it seem around here. If you can successfully lower your headliner, you won't be in for any more surprises than a tough to remove screw when replacing a sunroof and motor.

im thinking more and more about a moonroof when i pull the headliner to redo it, have someone else cut the hole and i do the rest.....which is exactly what pat said he might would do on his '93, he gave me the idea ;)

but cool, i'd like to see the pics and such 8)

I would never suggest adding a roof on your own. Have a professional do it. I have that experience as well and a good reputable shop will give you years of happiness.

My intention with this thread was to help those with broken factory installed roofs. Once I have a little time..I'll get the pics up.
