Default Drilling 1 hole in a stat

By drilling just one smalr hole in a stat - whether it be a 180 or a 195 - what will do, to the warm up time of an engine.

I have a tiny drilled hole in my 180 MotoRad stat and was wondering whether or not it changes anything in the way the engine warms up. I know that before I drilled the hole, the temp gauge went above the 200 mark on the instrument panel during warmup and the overflow bottle filled up pretty fast and higher than normal. After I drilled it, it never even approached that 200 mark upon warm up and the overflow tank went back to the normal HOT/COLD level marks.

Basically, did such a small holel only serve as a way to help stop air trapped in the system and that it would take a few more holes to have some effect on the cooling system?

The warm up time will take longer if you drill a hole in it.

Now regarding a 180 vs. 195 UN-drilled stat, there will be no difference in the warm up time. Drilling a hole will keep a small amount of coolant running through the engine, while it is warming up, and basically all the time...keeping it cooler.
