deep sounding stock muffler normal?
I just took my performance muffler off for a stock muffler. The car still sounds deep when accelerating lightly. Is this normal for a stock muffler or should it be really quite on a 1995 suprercharged bonneville?

Its just deep. The guy at the muffler shop said it was a Gorlick'* stock replacement. When he said stock i was thinking that it would be like it was out of the factory. I cant remember but I think it was alot quiter than that. It really sounds just a little less deeper than the low sounding Raven exhaust I had. When driving and just a little pedal pressure it sounds exactly like the Raven. Low deep sound. Did this muffler shop take me?

I have a 95 SSEI and a couple of years ago I replaced the muffler. NAPA did not have a stock one for my year and could not get one. They said they were were discontinued. They had a a stock muffler for a 94 Bonneville non supercharged. The upside was that it was a stainless steel muffler and as such would probably outlast the car. The muffler shop had to do a slight modification to the exhaust connector to put it on. I noticed right away that it had a lower rumble than the original muffler. So it seems that the original muffler for the supercharged cars help to make them quieter. I am no muffler expert but this was true in my case. I suppose you could ask if the muffler that was installed on your car was specifically for a supercharged Bonnie. You could also verify through a dealer if the mufflers are different . At any rate I do like the sound and I have seen no reduction in performance.

Well I forgot to mention that I did install a Magnaflow high flow cat a couple of months ago so it may have deepened the sound a little but going from a bad cat to a new cat its hard to say. The muffler made the biggest difference though. I was pleasantly surprised.
