Well I have a few Diesels... Starting and driving is not good for anything..

I always let them warm up before they go anywhere.

I read that article when i checked my email this morning. I can see where letting the car warm up wouldnt help the steady idle as it did in the day of carb'*/choke'*. however to say that letting a car warm up for anything over 30 sec is useless... i am skepticle. it would take longer than 30sec to get the oil warmed up and to the right viscosity where it would properly lubricate, also getting the metals of the motor (block/heads/ bolts, ect) to where they wouldnt snap, warp, or expand improperly. Plus who wants to get into a freezing vehicle?

I mainly warm my truck up becaue it'* only 8 mins to work, and I like a bit of heat before I pull in to the parking lot. It also does not take in account the safty part. Not having a warmed up engien runs the risk of fogging up the windshield because of your breath.

When I leave work I start it and sit for about a min. Warm the oil and get it moving. Easy on the gas until I have heat coming out the vents.

I do it for me and the car. When it'* in the teens, a defrosted windshield, heat, and a warm (heated) seat is good. I like to see where I'm going.
