i'm new here....i'm mere weeks away from purchasing either a '96 or '97 SSEi...but i have no clue as to what the difference was between the two years...can anybody recommend one year or the other. i'm leaning towards the '97...just cause it'* newer. does it have any features that differ from the '96? please help!

The 96 was the first year of the 3.8 series II */C engine in Bonneville with 4t65 E tranny.. however, the 97 has a 4t65 HD Tranny ( Heavy Duty ). Other then that.. there really isn't that big of a difference.. ( maybe cosmetically? )

Gotcha Drifter. The 96 had the 4T60E-HD like the previous years of the Series 1 SSEi'*. The 97 was the first year of the 4T65E-HD. I'm not really sure if there'* an advantage towards one or the other. I know Jr and I have discussed the odd cases where there seem to be more problems with the 65 than the 60. That may just be perception.

As far as any other mechanical or cosmetic differences between them, there shouldn't be any. 96 was the first year of the slightly modified outer appearance in all models. 97 should look identical.
