Default "Dealer Only" service manual?

I see a few of these go by on eBay.. what is so different about these? If it had more schematics.. there is no way I could pass up that. But, what exactly is so special about them? Also, what do they have, more than the regular FSM.. and is it worth buying one?

Helm is the publisher for the dealer manuals. Same thing.

So there is no difference between a "dealer only" service manual, and the "publically available" service manual?

There is no such thing as a "dealer only" service manual. There is a service manual published by the manufacturer that is intended for professionals (repair shops, dealers, etc), but anyone can buy it. Its available only through the manufacturer (and dealers). They can range between $80 and $200, and yes the one I had for my Ford Taurus was rather heavy on schematics and exploded assembly views, as I recall.

I acquired it with the car. The original owner ordered it through the dealer when he bought the car and passed it along to me. The list price on it was something like $200. They are usually only available from the manufacturer as long as the vehicle (and body style) is selling new. Otherwise, you'll have to get it on the second hand market.

Well, on eBay I have seen several "dealer only" manuals.. and it just kinda got me wondering, because my FSM is kinda lacking.. slightly in the schematics. I just want more.. which I doubt i'll get, but at least i'm trying .

Dealer manuals are published by Helm'*. My FSM isn't lacking in anything. Even the most minor circuit is accurately detailed.

If they say Dealer manuals, it'* the same thing as www.helminc.com

Mine has everything nicely laid out.. it just.. kinda lacking with the electrical. I wish it had schematics for the I/P [not the stuff leading up to it, but the physical I/P]. Along with the ignition electrical.. but for mechanical stuff, it has more than I would ever need.

Well obviously this is something of a marketing gimmick. I suppose one could think of them as "dealer only" service manuals in the sense that "only dealers" typically have them. But in the sense of it being some kind of confidential material that is only available to authorized dealers, that is false.

Due to their cost, limited distribution and availability, not too many people have them outside of the profession. Also, there is a limited supply. Enough of them are printed to cover orders by dealers and repair shops, plus some number to cover unpredictable demand (late orders, new businesses, replacements for damaged or lost copies, etc.).

Ebay is the best source usually. But if you want new, or can't find them on ebay, try www.helminc.com

That'* where mine came from. New for $90. Worth every penny. Not just for me, but for countless members I've helped with them.
