i looked at at a '92 SSEi today (owner wasn't around) and had a few questions about the powertrain. i've looked, but can't find what i'm looking for. so i have a few newbie questions:

1) this wouldn't be the 3800 motor would it?

2) is the same tranny used in all '92+ bonnevilles?

3) assuming the car has 100,000+ miles, what should be done to the motor (and supercharger) to ensure that i won't have problems anytime soon?

4) are speed parts readily available for '92s?


now, this was the first year for that bodystyle and motor if i'm not mistaken (or am i mistaken?), and i'm always hesitant to pick up the first year of anything. so what should i look for? any help would be appreciated as i plan to get in contact with the owner this weekend. thanks.

1. SUPERCHARGED 3800. Standard on the SSEi.

2. 92-96 used the 4T60E, yours (as all SC models) is the heavy duty version of the same trans. 4T60E-HD

3. Full tuneup, flush the trans, check the SC coupler. No big deal, no common probs.

4. Depends on what you want. We do ok. You have almost the same motor in that car as you see in my sig. Minor differences only.

Yes, it is the L67 Series One 3800. I believe that they have the same tranny in 92+ but dont take my word for it. Im not the proffesional. Just give it a normal tune-up, plugs, oil filter/oil change, etc. There isn't much of an aftermarket for 92's but there still is a bunch of stuff you can do to it. I've got a 92 SSEi myself and absolutely love it. Welcome to the club, kick back and let the fun begin.

yep, minor, his car doesn't have a tranny, you do. loL.

If it's an EGR-less engine.. be careful with that.. burned pistons are possible.
