Default 140 amp Alternator just dumped!!

Well, well, well.... at least it didn't do it at the track.
It'* doing the same thing that happened to my old 94 SLE (Jays now) about 1 month ago.
Sounds like the bearings took a dump and everything inside is getting ground up.
Heard noise, pulled over and immediately smoke started pouring out around the right headlight. luckily it was just smoke and no fire.

So since I leave in the morning for NE I hired my brother to take the alternator off and in to the Auto Electric shop and have them rebuild it.

Another one bites the dust. Marty, spend the money and get one from www.mralternator.com

They've got beefed up rear bearings.

$210...I hope they really beefed up those bearings...(oh, I see that the amps are a little higher than the stocker )

Rebuild your old one if it'* not to beat up inside, 140amps is plenty, plus it'* alot cheeper
than $210 bucks.

Wills just got too much money.

Yep, the rear bearing on mine froze and the only thing that kept the alternator turning was the entire race and the bearing spinning and destroying the rear of my case...I wish I had pictures of that, it was amazing. I bought an alternator for a 94 supercharged Bonneville and haven't had any problems with it yet.

Well, well, well!!!! Turns out it wasn't the alternator (but I still think it'* seen it'* better days).
Had my brother dig into my car while I was gone for the past 2 weeks and it seems that the grooved idler pulley directly below the power steering pump had it'* bearing completely disappear, and shread both my belts.
Luckily he had it all fixed for $65 in parts ($115 for me including his labor).
