Spare Tire
Since planning on heading out for the West Coast bonnefest, Bob...Echo SSEi and I were talking. One day Bob brings up a great point. He asks me to keep my eyes open for a LeSabre spare tire cover, because some of them had full size spares. And he plans on having a full size spare for the trip.
Great idea! Makes perfect sense. If something happens to a tire..you put on another real tire of the same size and keep on rolling. Call in the tire need to Oregon, that way if you want..a new one can be waiting for you to drop off the old rim.
Thing is..I haven't found a spare tire cover for a full size spare yet. The concept would be to cut a trunk liner and put it around the spare tire cover to look good while being functional.
Thought I would toss this out for other people taking trips this summer as a good idea.
Typically you can get a tire on the rim in the right size at a junkyard cheap. Maybe the rim doesn't match.. no biggie..it'* a spare.

The rolling diameter is different. Not sure a full size would fit in the well. If it does, forget the cover, and just pull your carpet over it.
BTW, the best tire shop in town is 3 blocks down the street from me. Also be aware that there is NO SALES TAX in Oregon. So if you might need tires, this is the place to get them.
Chadow427 tried to get new tires last weekend down here, but they didn't have his size in stock at the time.

I can see where this would not work....the space-saving tire sits all the way back in the hole. The bolt that holds the cover down goes straight through the hole for the hub on the wheel. If you put a full-size in it, the measurment from the hole for the hub to the outside of the tire will be greater, therefore if you slide it all the way back, the bolt cannot go through the wheel. The wheel would prolly fit in the hole, but I don't think you could put the cover on and have it stay.

Good Idea. What about the SSEi owners?
We all have those air pumps in the rear. I say leave the spare flat (fit it in) and then pump it up when you need it. Yeah? no?

A different possibility is something larger than a spare but maybe not full size. So you can still roll at highway speeds, it just wont be as good.

^ my thoughts exactly, perhaps a 2xx/45 r16 or something something lower profile that will fit in there. it also does not hurt to have new tires when you are about to drive 5000 miles or so....are you going to carry other spare parts like a spare alternator or something as well? I think I am going to have one in my car at all times considering they seem to fail a little too often.
