po122 and po033

i have 1996 bonneville which is reading off codes po122 and po033. wat could cause this i have already replaced the tps and did a full tune up.. and sometime from time to time the car will jus cutt off?? plz help

A P0122 code means that the the car's computer has detected that the TPS (throttle position sensor) is reporting too low a voltage. On some vehicles that lower limit is 0.17 - 0.20 volts (V).

Did you adjust it when you installed it? If the signal value is less than .17V then the PCM sets this code. Could be an open or a short to ground in the signal circuit. Or you may have lost the 5Volt reference voltage.

If you removed the TPS, did you install it right? It's very easy to get it wrong. Here's a write up on it. It MUST be put in offset a little bit, and then turned back. https://www.gmforum.com/normal-maintainence-138/throttle-position-sensor-tps-replacement-284336/

well id diont set it im a gurl n i dont know if the perso who did it did.. but would a tps cause the car to cutt off or cause the tranmission to slip

Yes it can. TPS signal is used for shifting. My guess is it's not installed right. Look at the write up. It's very easy to do. And being a girl changes nothing. The write up walks you through everything.

ok thank u one more question is it possible to reposition the present tps and have it work right or should i just purchase and new one and do it all over again??

sseidriver97 04-22-2011 02:03 PM

You can use the same one no need for a new one unless it got broken on the inside from being in wrong. That is unlikely though

ok thanks u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your welcome be sure to let us know how it goes

Once you look at how it works, and what you feel when you put it in right, you will understand why it's not working. If I'm correct, the pins on the throttle plate are not touching the tabs on the TPS. When you turn the TPS back a little you will feel the resistance and the TPS moves. So right now the TPS is at zero instead of above zero, and that's why you have TPS low voltage.
