PLEASE HELP!!! HOW DO I USE TWILIGHT SENTINEL????????

I currently own a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville SE with leather seats, elec. climate cont., and twilight sentinel. I read in the owners manual about the Twilight Sentinel, but it confused me. I was told that it keeps your headlights on so they can light your way. That sounds great, but I don't know how to use it!
PLEASE tell me exactly how to use it! It would be very helpful to me! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

you turn it up or down to pick how long the outside lights stay on after the key is taken out. if you turn it all the way up, it turns that feature off.

all the way to the left is OFF
start turning to the right and it will click, ON... from there on its just the time setting... of how long the lights stay on after u shut it off

^^^ very basic instructions, someone else can get more detailed... im going bowling:)

why is there a poll about milage in this thread?

The time delay is correct. How long do you want the lights to stay on after you remove the key?

For turning it off and on, it varies by years folks. My 93 SSEi is opposite my 95 SLE/SC. ;)

Twilight Sentinel automaticly turns on exterior lighting at dusk (twilight) according to input from ambient light sensor, it transfers headlights from DRL function to normal headlight brilliance also for night time driving. At dawn Twilight Sentinel turns exterior light off & sets DRL condition. Like the guys all stated above you can use the adjuster ring to set the "off" time delay on the exterior lights after ign is off. this helps you make it up the sidewalk whatever to your house door with out being in darkness.

Please note:
92-94 the sentinel off is turning all the way clockwise (aka backwards of every other year)
95-99 Sentinel ring is turned counter clockwise to turn it off.

(Why is 93 the best year?)

Copoied from my PDF Copy of my Owner's Manul:

Twilight sentinel will keep your headlamps on for
up to three minutes, to light your way when you leave
your vehicle.
To operate twilight sentinel, turn the control to MAX for
the three minute delay. Turn it the other way to reduce
the delay. Turn the control to MIN to turn twilight
sentinel off.
Also, it’s possible that your headlamps may go out if
you drive from a dark area into a bright area like a
lighted parking lot. If this happens, turn on your
headlamps with the regular headlamp switch.
