Vin Question
Well I was working on my L67 swap and we got to thinking that the VIN would be on the block or Transmission somewhere, and then I could just get a carfax for it and have an idea of the life my motor lead. Well the only thing is that only I think the last 9 or so are on the block. My dad seems to think that we could use the first half of a VIN from a another PA ultra from 98 because those should all be the same. I am not sure about this but figured I would ask.
What do you guys think?

The first 8 digits should be the same for another PA ultra.
This is a 97 PA limited VIN: 1G4CW52K2V4633554
The 8th digit of the VIN will be a 1 for L67, and K for L36, as the VIN above is. Without knowing the plant code (11th digit) and the Check Digit (9th) you might have an issue though.

Either do the idea you have or call a dealer. Ask about a part and give them the last 9 and the year. Then ask if they can pull up your full vin for you. My local dealer was able to give me an rpo list for my car and build date etc from trying to look up a part. But they gotta be looking for a part otherwise the system tells them to pound sand.
