Default GM/Dex-Cool Class Action Update

Just an update for you. I got on the email list to keep an eye on the progress. I have very little personal interest in being part of the class action. All the money goes to the lawyers anyway. The plaintiffs get the usual $1 off coupons.

Anyway, here'* the basic text of a response I received today:

GM/Dex-Cool Class Action Update

Thank you for your recent communication regarding problems with your GM vehicle factory installed with Dex-Cool. We write to update you concerning the status of the class action case.

Multiple federal cases against GM were consolidated in the United States District Court, Southern District of Illinois. The proposed class presently includes all United States consumers who purchased or leased a 1995- 2004 GM vehicle that came factory-equipped with a 3.1-, 3.4-, 3.8-, or 4.3-Liter engine and Dex-Cool in any state other than California, Missouri and Texas (where related state cases are pending).

In February 2006, a hearing was held regarding Plaintiff’* motion for class certification. As we await the Court’* ruling, we are currently conducting discovery, and litigating the state court actions.

In related GM class actions in state courts, a Missouri state court certified a Missouri class and the Missouri Court of Appeals and the Missouri Supreme Court refused GM’* request to appeal.

Our goal is to send out periodic updates by email, but please contact us if you have questions, want information, or have information that you think might be useful to the case. Please save your repair invoices, receipts, correspondence concerning cooling system repairs and any parts you have. You may contact Dylan Hughes at 866.981.4800 or reply to this email address if you have any further questions.

Excellent info. Glad we're not the only ones that think Dex is the devil.

It kills motors. Eats gaskets. Slaughters baby harp seals.

Again the nasty DEX surfaces, and again, I encourage EVERYONE here to get it out of your cars and replace it with Prestone Long-Life Dex compatible coolant!

From what I know it'* silicate-free, thus requiring less maintenance because there is no build -up of silicates as with traditional ethylene glycol. That'* why it'* important to have the system flushed with the green anti-freeze. Dex was hailed as a "100000km" (you can do the conversion) coolant.

At least that'* how it was explained to me.

K, so let me get this stright real quick (I hope this is an acceptable place to ask).

This in no way, affects my L61 (Ecotec) or my sisters 2.4 Twin Cam in her Grand Am? Anyone know why? Did they use different kinds of gaskets?

EDIT: OOps, its because they are inline engines not V'* right?

what am I missing ? I have had Dex in my Bonnie for 212,000 miles with only 1 change. It has the orignal waterpump and I have NEVER had an issue with the cooling. I also had it in my Lesabre for 150k miles with no cooling issues either ?? What am I missing here
